Leading Peruvian avocado company Agrícola Cerro Prieto exported 23,000 tonnes this season, down 45.2% from 42,000 tonnes the previous year, with weather shortening the season as the main cause.

The 2026 Peruvian avocado season has drawn to a close, and the results delivered by the industry's leading companies are not pretty. As one of Peru's top five avocado producers and exporters, Agrícola Cerro Prieto (ACP) exported a total of 23,000 tonnes this season, a sharp drop of 45.2% from 42,000 tonnes in 2025, nearly halving.

According to the company, unfavourable weather significantly shortened this year's season, which is the main reason for the plunge in export volume. By contrast, the 2025 harvest period was longer than in previous years, and the company's export volume set a historical record that year, so this year's decline also includes a high base effect.

In terms of market structure, about 65% of ACP's avocados are sold to the European market, 25% are exported to the United States, and the remainder mainly goes to Latin America (chiefly Chile) and Asian markets (mainly China, Japan and South Korea).

Records show that ACP owns 1,800 hectares of avocado orchards, all located in the La Libertad region of Peru, with Hass as the main variety, accounting for more than 90%, plus a small amount of Ettinger and Zutano varieties.
