At this time, the most suitable thing for flowers and plants is a "haircut," because being willing to prune now can stimulate more flower buds later. So what is the purpose of pruning, and what should be noted after pruning?

Roses

After the Start of Autumn, pruning roses is mainly about cutting off spent flowers. This promotes further branching of the flowering stems and prevents seed production from draining nutrients. In particular, flowers that have finished blooming in summer also need to be cut off as well. It is recommended to cut about 1 cm above a leaf. Next, also prune weak, thin branches and diseased or pest-infested branches, and cut back leggy growth. This helps avoid unnecessary pests and diseases and prevents too many stray branches from blocking light. At the same time, after pruning the plant as a whole looks neater, improving its ornamental value later on. After pruning, let the branches get sunlight; good ventilation also helps reduce disease.

Bougainvillea

After bougainvillea runs wild in summer, its branches can become so numerous that they even cover the flowers. So pruning is very necessary, because besides reducing nutrients being spent entirely on leaves, it also encourages new branches to extend outward, making the plant shape more "imposing." Here it is recommended to cut off leggy branches longer than 30 cm, preferably with the cut just above an outward-facing bud point. Also be sure to cut off old branches with sparse leaves. Do not worry that it will not grow after cutting; when pruning, you must be willing to cut. After pruning, remember to withhold water for a few days and do not water immediately. This way, you will soon see bright red flower buds emerging at the tips of the branches.

Rose of Sharon (Hibiscus syriacus)

After growing through summer, rose of Sharon branches generally become uneven after the Start of Autumn, looking awkward. At this time, pruning is recommended. Roughly, just leave about 10 cm of branch above the woody part. Pruned this way, the new growth afterward will be neater, and when it blooms it can form a uniform layer of flowers. At the same time, branches that have completely withered or become infected with pests or diseases must also be cleaned up.

After pruning, apply a light fertilizer about every ten days or so. This will make the rose of Sharon bloom like a "flowering machine," producing one flush of blooms after another.
