When Do Phalaenopsis Orchids Bloom?

The natural bloom season of Phalaenopsis is wonderfully generous: it's mainly concentrated from winter to the following spring (October to April of the following year), spanning autumn, winter and spring, so you can enjoy the flowers even in cold weather~

A single bloom period usually lasts 2-3 months, but exactly how long it lasts depends on the variety, temperature and care!

What Makes Bloom Length Differ?

1. Variety differences: large-flowered types hold their blooms longer, small-flowered types are more delicate

Large-flowered varieties (such as 'Mantianhong'): thick petals, bloom period over 3 months, great for long-lasting display;

Compact varieties (such as 'Panda'): dainty flowers, bloom period usually 4-6 weeks, prized for their dense and cute blooms~

2. Temperature control: 15-20℃ is the golden range for keeping blooms fresh

Keeping it at 15-20℃ slows metabolism and directly prolongs the bloom period;

Above 28℃ petals age and wither easily, while below 10℃ flower buds may suffer frost damage, so getting the temperature right matters!

How to Get It to Rebloom?

1. Post-bloom pruning:

After the spent flowers fade, keep 2-3 healthy nodes of stem on the flower spike (with plump buds), and cut 1-2 cm above them; don't cut too aggressively or you'll sap its strength~

2. Temperature difference stimulation:

Keep it at 20-25℃ during the day and 15-18℃ at night, maintaining a 5-10℃ temperature difference for 4-6 weeks to easily stimulate flower bud differentiation~

3. Keep up the nutrients:

1-2 months after blooming, supplement with phosphorus and potassium fertilizer (such as monopotassium phosphate), a dilute feed once a week;

In autumn and winter, when temperatures are low (<15℃), reduce fertilizing to avoid root rot~

Pitfalls to Avoid for Reblooming:

1. Don't rush to repot after blooming; wait until the roots have recovered for 1-2 months;

2. Don't water too frequently; water when dry and let it dry between waterings to prevent root rot;

3. Make sure it gets 2-3 hours of scattered light every day; without enough light, flower buds are hard to form~
