How to grow Phalaenopsis orchids and what to pay attention to? How do you repot a Phalaenopsis orchid?

The summer vacation is here, and I believe many friends have started paying attention to the plants on their balconies, and it's inevitable that some wilted plants will be discovered. And some plants are rather expensive when purchased, for example, if a "Phalaenopsis" flower just wilts and gets thrown away, it's inevitably a pity. In fact, as long as you can see in the transparent pot that the roots and seedlings are still healthy, with a bit of care it can still rebloom.

Below, let me tell everyone about the basic operations for Phalaenopsis care; once you learn them, you'll have fewer flower-growing worries. First, after you bring a Phalaenopsis home and grow it indoors for a while, how do you know it has adapted to the environment? Actually, you can tell just by looking at the leaves. If the leaves are bright green without yellow spots and are not withered or yellow, the flowers bloom normally without wilting, and the aerial roots exposed outside are neither rotten nor dried out, then meeting these points shows it is living comfortably indoors, while sudden wilting in summer may be due to excessively high temperatures, causing the plant to enter a "survival" mode and a dormant state. At this time we only need to water lightly and place it in a relatively fresh and cool spot and care for it carefully.

If your Phalaenopsis has already gone through one flowering period, then take advantage of the current wilt to do a repotting operation. How exactly? First, after the flowers fade, when cutting the flower spike, leave more than two nodes before cutting. After cutting it all off, start removing the medium; if during the process you find rotten roots or hollow roots, they must be thoroughly cleaned up (use sterilized scissors to cut them off), otherwise the rotten areas will keep getting bigger. Also apply a little plant ash or carbendazim to the cut surfaces to prevent infection.

Then, for the potting medium used for repotting, it is recommended to choose sphagnum moss, bark strips, coconut husk, and so on; if conditions allow, it is recommended to repot once a year. Generally speaking, if you choose sphagnum moss, before use it needs to be soaked in clean water for two or three days, then after taking it out, soak it for one to two hours in a 1000-fold dilution of 70% thiophanate-methyl, or an 800-1000-fold dilution of 50% carbendazim, and let it dry a bit before use.

Finally, place the sterilized sphagnum moss at the bottom of the pot, then wrap the roots with sphagnum moss, noting that the roots should be spread out and not tangled together, then put them into the new pot. When filling in the sphagnum moss, adjust the position of the plant, and after filling press gently, but do not press too tightly, otherwise the roots are prone to suffocating and rotting.
