Recently a friend asked: after finally getting hold of some Phalaenopsis seedlings, they ended up with either yellow leaves or root rot, and were so anxious they scratched their heads in frustration! Don't panic! Today I'll show you step by step how to grow them from a beginner to blooming - here comes a super simple care guide!

When you receive the seedlings, don't repot them right away! First unpack them and place them in a spot with indirect light and good airflow to calm down for a day or two, letting them adjust to the new environment. If you notice the leaves look a bit wilted, don't rush to water; use a spray bottle to mist water around them to create a humid microclimate.

Phalaenopsis is different from ordinary flowers and plants - its roots need to breathe! Never use ordinary flower pots and soil; it's best to choose a transparent plastic nursery pot with several extra ventilation holes punched in the bottom. For the growing medium, use a mix of bark and sphagnum moss; the bark provides airflow and the sphagnum moss retains water, at a ratio of about 3:1

"itchy hands"! It really doesn't like being too wet! Feel the sphagnum moss - water only when it has dried out until it's whitish and a bit hard; each time water thoroughly until water runs freely from the bottom of the pot. Choose the morning for watering, not the evening, otherwise a stuffy night can easily cause root rot. If you can't judge it well, you can buy a soil moisture meter; when the reading is below 20

Phalaenopsis seedlings are afraid of direct sun! An east- or north-facing windowsill is most suitable, with 2-3 hours of soft, indirect light each day being enough. In summer, remember to put up a shade net, otherwise it will get scorched in no time.

It is a tropical "delicate flower", and 15℃-28℃ is the most comfortable for it. In winter, below 10℃ it becomes risky, so move it indoors and turn on the heating right away; in summer, above 30℃, increase ventilation, otherwise it easily gets stuffy and sick.

Don't use strong fertilizer on Phalaenopsis seedlings! Use orchid-specific nutrient solution diluted 1000

Phalaenopsis leaves turning yellow? It may be too much watering, so ventilate and dry them out quickly; if black spots appear on the leaves, it's most likely a pathogen infection - cut off the diseased leaves and spray some carbendazim. If you find root rot, don't rush to throw it away; cut off all the rotten parts, soak for half an hour in potassium permanganate to disinfect, repot in clean sphagnum moss, and it can still be saved!

If you care for them according to these methods, within half a year your seedlings will grow big flower spikes! When growing Phalaenopsis, observe more and be patient, and it will definitely repay you with the most beautiful flowers!
