Common reasons for yellowing leaves on Phalaenopsis after repotting

Nutrition: after repotting, the roots have not yet recovered their ability to absorb nutrients, so the plant consumes its own reserves.

Light: after repotting, if shade is not provided in time, strong light scorches the leaves.

Pests and diseases: improper operation during repotting or unsanitized potting medium can cause fungal/bacterial infection.

Sphagnum moss: planting the sphagnum moss too deep suffocates the roots, or overwatering keeps the potting medium constantly wet.

Watering: watering at high noon shocks the roots, or the watering frequency is unreasonable.

Fertilizing: fertilizing before the plant has stabilized causes root burn.

Care tips after repotting

Repotting time: avoid the high-temperature period; if repotting is unavoidable, keep the original sphagnum moss to reduce root damage.

Potting medium and pot: choose a potting medium that is breathable and moisture-retentive, such as bark mixed with sphagnum moss; the pot should be 1 cm larger than the original pot. Avoid large pots/deep pots, which slow the wet-dry cycle and cause root rot.

Notes:

1. Avoid hollow roots/planting too deep; make sure the roots fit closely against the potting medium, and do not bury the base of the pseudobulb deeply.

2. Do not fertilize during the acclimatization period (1-2 weeks); water thoroughly only after the sphagnum moss has dried out, water in the early morning or evening when temperatures are low, and ventilate after watering.

3. After repotting, place it in bright, indirect light (avoid direct light), and keep the environment warm (20-28°C) with good air circulation.

Solutions

1. If the yellowing of the leaves is slight: immediately move it to bright, indirect light, check whether the sphagnum moss is dry or wet, water only when it has dried out, stop fertilizing, and observe whether the roots are healthy.

2. If the roots are rotten: take it out of the pot and trim off the rotten roots, soak in carbendazim for 10 minutes, let it dry, then repot in clean potting medium, do not water for now, and give a small amount of water after 1-2 days.
