Flower Cultivation By Grace Miller 0 views
Phalaenopsis 'Peerless Duo', also known as Pink Pearl, once won third place at a Taiwan, China orchid show and is deeply loved by flower enthusiasts. 'Peerless Duo' is a pink, medium-flowered Phalaenopsis. It looks strikingly similar to Phalaenopsis 'Baby' but is more vividly colored. The lip of 'Baby' is a darker red, while 'Peerless Duo' is a bright rose red; 'Baby' has obvious veining on its petals and sepals, and its upper sepal is round

Phalaenopsis Juedai Shuangjiao

Juedai Shuangjiao is a pink medium-flowered Phalaenopsis that closely resembles Phalaenopsis Bao Bei in appearance, yet is more vivid. Bao Bei's lip is a darker red, while Juedai Shuangjiao's is a bright rose red; Bao Bei's petals and sepals have obvious veining and a round, broad upper sepal, while Juedai Shuangjiao's petals and sepals have fainter veining and a more slender upper sepal

Care Methods

1.Temperature: Phalaenopsis Juedai Shuangjiao grows best at 15 - 28°C. In winter, keep it warm when temperatures drop below 10°C, for example with heating equipment; in summer, when temperatures rise above 32°C, cool it down with an air conditioner or shade net to avoid high-temperature damage to the plant.

2.Light: It likes diffused light, so place it by an indoor window and avoid direct sunlight. In spring, autumn and winter, you can appropriately increase the light duration, but in summer use a shade net with a 50%-70%shading rate to block light and prevent the leaves from sunburn.

3.Water: Follow "water when dry, dry out between waterings" insert a finger 2-3cm into the potting mix and water when it feels dry, watering thoroughly and letting the excess water drain out. In spring and autumn, water 1-2times a week, in summer once every 2-3days, and in winter once every 7-10days, watering in the morning and evening.

4.Potting mix: Mix sphagnum moss and bark in a 3:2ratio. Sphagnum moss holds water well and bark has good air permeability, so this combination not only ensures an adequate water supply for the roots but also lets the roots breathe freely. Every 1-2years, replace the potting mix once in spring or autumn to ensure its air permeability and fertility.

5.Fertilizing: During the vigorous growth period (spring and autumn), apply a diluted orchid-specific liquid fertilizer once a month, following the dilution ratio on the instructions. Before the flowering period, add more phosphorus and potassium fertilizer, such as monopotassium phosphate, diluted to 1000times strength, and spray on the leaves or drench the roots once every 10-15days, which can promote flower bud differentiation and flowering.

Precautions

1.Ventilation: Ensure the growing environment is well ventilated; open windows often or use a fan, but do not let the wind blow directly on the plant.

2.Pests and diseases: Common diseases include soft rot and anthracnose, and pests include aphids and red spider mites. Deal with pests and diseases promptly when found; use agents such as carbendazim for soft rot and imidacloprid for aphids.

3.Pruning: After the flowers fade, cut from the base of the flower stem up to 2-3nodes; if you want a second bloom, keep 3-4nodes of the flower stem and fertilize.
