Phalaenopsis orchids are extremely beautiful, and many flower lovers enjoy growing them. Compared with traditional soil culture, semi-hydroponic phalaenopsis orchids are not only cleaner, but also let you clearly see how the roots are growing, which greatly enhances their ornamental appeal. Below, I will share the semi-hydroponic care method for phalaenopsis orchids! 1. Preliminary preparation First, choose a healthy phalaenopsis orchid. A healthy plant's leaves

Phalaenopsis orchids (moth orchids) are stunningly beautiful, and many plant lovers adore growing them. Compared with traditional soil culture, semi-hydroponic Phalaenopsis is not only cleaner, but also lets you clearly see how the roots are growing, which makes it even more rewarding to look at. Below, we share the semi-hydroponic care method for Phalaenopsis with everyone!

1. Preparation

First, pick a healthy Phalaenopsis. A healthy plant has emerald-green leaves with a glossy sheen and plump, tender white roots that look full of vitality. Then prepare a transparent hydroponic container so you can easily observe the roots. In addition, you will need sphagnum moss or clay pebbles, which are airy and loose so the orchid's roots can grow better inside.

2. Transplanting Method

Carefully take the Phalaenopsis out of its original pot, working gently and slowly removing the old soil from the roots, and be very careful not to damage them. After cleaning, soak the roots in a diluted carbendazim solution for 15to20minutes, then take them out and let them dry. Next, spread a layer of sphagnum moss or clay pebbles at the bottom of the hydroponic container, place the Phalaenopsis in, and continue filling with sphagnum moss or clay pebbles to hold the plant firmly in place.

3. Daily Care

1.Watering: This is the key to semi-hydroponics! When adding water to the container, note that the water level should be 1to2cm away from the bottom of the roots, and never let the roots sit fully in water, or they will easily suffer from lack of oxygen and rot. Check the water level regularly; in summer when the weather is hot and water evaporates quickly, you need to check every 3to5days; in winter, checking once every 1to2weeks is fine.

2.Light: Phalaenopsis likes soft, diffused light, so never put it out in the blazing sun. You can place it on a bright, well-ventilated windowsill indoors or in the living room, and with 4to6hours of diffused light each day, it can carry out photosynthesis smoothly.

3.Temperature: 18to28°C is the temperature Phalaenopsis likes best. Remember to cool it down in summer, and keep it warm in winter so it does not get frostbitten.

4. Points to Note

Pay extra attention to the roots and leaves of the Phalaenopsis; if you find the roots turning black or rotting, prune them promptly and also disinfect the plant and the container. Every 2to3months, you can use a special nutrient solution for hydroponic flowers, dilute it according to the instructions, and add it to the water to supplement the Phalaenopsis's nutrition.

As long as you master these methods, even a beginner at growing plants can keep Phalaenopsis healthy and thriving.
