Detailed Guide to Dividing and Transplanting Phalaenopsis Orchids and Cultivation Methods
Division propagation, a common method of propagating Phalaenopsis orchids (moth orchids), can extend the life of the plant. Below, we introduce the methods and precautions for dividing Phalaenopsis orchids.

Preliminary Preparation for Division
1.Soak the roots in advance: Before dividing, be sure to water the Phalaenopsis thoroughly. Since the cut surfaces need to stay dry after division, soak the plant one day in advance so the roots can fully absorb water. This way, the roots are more flexible during division, reducing the risk of breaking them.

2.Sterilize the tools: The floral scissors and knife used must be strictly sterilized and disinfected to prevent bacteria from infecting the wounds of the Phalaenopsis. Choose to scorch the surface of the tools with a lighter to achieve rapid sterilization. During operation, be especially careful and try to avoid causing damage to the roots and leaves.

Division and Follow-up Care
1.Handling the dried cut surfaces: Carefully take the Phalaenopsis out of the pot and gently shake off the growing medium around the roots; be sure to work gently to prevent damaging the roots. Observe the plant carefully and choose a side shoot with aerial roots as the daughter plant. Using sterilized floral scissors or a small knife, separate the daughter plant from the mother plant, ensuring the daughter plant has sufficient roots and leaves. After division, apply carbendazim powder to the wounds of both the mother plant and the daughter plant to prevent wound infection.

2.Plant care: Replant the treated mother plant back into the pot and place it in a cool, ventilated spot, away from direct strong light. Keep the growing medium slightly moist, and wait until the mother plant resumes growth before carrying out normal care. Place the daughter plant in a cool, ventilated spot to dry for 1 - 2days to encourage the wound to heal. After that, plant it into a pot filled with fresh sphagnum moss. Water moderately at first to keep the sphagnum moss moist, and place the daughter plant in a spot with plenty of scattered light.

Precautions

When dividing, avoid damaging the roots and leaves; this is crucial to the plant's survival rate. Phalaenopsis is sensitive to temperature and humidity, so after division, keep the care environment temperature at 20 - 25°C and the relative humidity at 60% - 80%
