How to care for Phalaenopsis orchids after blooming? A detailed guide to care and management methods
Do you often find yourself stuck with a post-bloom Phalaenopsis orchid and not knowing how to care for it, only to accidentally kill it? Today I am sharing my tips for caring for post-bloom Phalaenopsis orchids with everyone.
Potting medium

Choose sphagnum moss as the potting medium for your Phalaenopsis orchid. Sphagnum moss has excellent water absorption and air permeability, and is also rich in the organic matter that Phalaenopsis orchids need to grow, which can greatly reduce the chance of problems such as root rot and black rot, creating a great growing environment for the orchid's roots.
Repotting

After the flowers fade, you need to cut off the flower spike promptly, since leaving it will continue to consume nutrients, and you should also repot the plant. That is because after a Phalaenopsis orchid finishes blooming, the original pot may no longer be able to hold its root system, and without a slightly larger space, the roots will not have enough room to grow. Prepare a new pot and some sphagnum moss; sphagnum moss absorbs water well and is airy, so after soaking it, wrap it around the original roots. As long as the roots have not rotted, there is no need to touch the original sphagnum moss and old roots.
Light

Phalaenopsis seedlings love light, but you should avoid harsh direct sun, so you can place them somewhere with bright indirect light. They also prefer a ventilated, airy environment, and they must not be rained on, since rain easily breeds bacteria and causes the plant to get sick. For example, placing it indoors near a window in a well-ventilated spot is a great choice.
Watering

The frequency of watering depends on your growing environment. If the environment is well ventilated, you can water once every 7 - 10days; if it is in a semi-enclosed environment, watering once every 15days is fine too. Water slowly along the edge of the pot, and do not let water collect in the leaf crown, or the crown can easily rot. Stick your finger into the potting mix, and when it feels dry, it is time to water.
Fertilizing

Fertilizing can make Phalaenopsis orchids grow stronger. Apply a water-soluble fertilizer once a month; water-soluble fertilizer dissolves well and allows the orchid to absorb nutrients better, helping the plant grow strong and healthy. Remember to fertilize lightly and often, and never apply too much at once, or the roots can easily burn.

In short, caring for post-bloom Phalaenopsis orchids is actually not difficult. As long as you master these little tips and care for them attentively, your Phalaenopsis orchid will surely bloom beautifully again.
