Today I will introduce a magical flower - the ginger lily. When this flower has not yet opened, its shape looks like a pagoda, somewhat like corn. Once fully open, it is mostly pure white, and the flowers look like butterflies. The flowering period is from May to November. Besides being ornamental, it can also be picked for stir-frying, brewing tea, and it even has a mosquito-repellent effect.

Another name for the ginger lily is butterfly ginger or baicaoguo. It belongs to the genus Hedychium in the ginger family. After fully opening, it carries a light delicate fragrance; placed at home, it is like a natural air freshener. On the flower market there are fresh cut flowers and potted plants. First, let's talk about fresh cut flowers. Usually when you buy them they are fairly tall. At this time, first cut the green stems at the base at an angle by about 1 cm, then put them in deep water to revive the flowers for about 4 hours. After they have revived, remove excess leaves, keeping only 1 to 2 ornamental leaves. If there are many flower buds growing, you can remove 1 to 2 flower buds per stem as appropriate. Doing this helps concentrate nutrients in the flowers and makes them bloom quickly.

Then take a nice-looking vase, add about 5 cm of water, and grow them in shallow water. If conditions allow, you can add preservative or 84 disinfectant. This can reduce bacterial growth. For subsequent water changes, change the water every 2 to 3 days, keep the room ventilated, and let it receive more sunlight.

If what you bought is a potted plant, the ginger lily likes a warm, humid environment, and it prefers fertile, loose soil with good air permeability. The growing temperature is between 22°C and 24°C. It is not very cold-tolerant, and it also fears long periods of direct strong sunlight. If the temperature exceeds 30°C, the leaves may be sunburned and become unattractive. If it is kept for a long time in an environment below 5°C, it will likewise damage its root system and prevent it from growing normally.

In terms of watering and fertilizing, the ginger lily's flowering period is from July to November. During this period, the soil must be kept slightly moist, but it absolutely must not become waterlogged, otherwise the roots can easily rot. As for fertilizing, two weeks before the flowering period, apply liquid fertilizer or slow-release fertilizer once. This can provide enough nutrients to help it grow healthier and stronger.
