Friends who love lilies surely know the "gloriosa lily." It is a flower quite different from ordinary lilies: it likes to climb as it grows, loves the hot summer, and also has a particularly long blooming period. Its petal colors are like a magician's, starting green, turning cream-yellow after a few days, then red, and staying red until it is about to fade.

Friends who love lilies surely know the "gloriosa lily." It is a flower quite different from ordinary lilies: it likes to climb as it grows, loves the hot summer, and also has a particularly long blooming period. Its petal colors are like a magician's, starting green, turning cream-yellow after a few days, then red, and staying red until it is about to fade, full of character and ornamental value.

Gloriosa, which flower shop owners also call flame lily, gets its name because after the flower blooms its petals curl backward, just like burning flames, giving it a particularly imposing presence. Therefore it symbolizes light and passion, and its flower language is "brilliance" and "success," with especially good meaning.

So, how exactly should you care for a gloriosa lily after buying it and bringing it home? It likes warm, humid environments, and the most suitable temperature for its growth is 15°C to 24°C. It likes light but can also tolerate partial shade. Although it is a summer flower, during the hottest dog days of summer, when the sun is at its fiercest, it should be shaded appropriately, otherwise its leaves can easily get sunburned. In winter, the lowest it can take is only 5°C. If the temperature drops below that, you must quickly adjust the ambient temperature, or it may easily die.

As for soil, it is fairly picky, preferring fertile, loose soil. If conditions allow, you can use organic fertilizer or leaf mold to improve the soil texture. This can increase the soil's fertility and air permeability.

In daily care, the watering aspect that most people care about is that gloriosa should keep the soil slightly moist, avoiding excessive watering that causes waterlogging. In relatively dry seasons, it is recommended to water once every ten days, and when watering, make sure the water can penetrate to the roots. In late autumn, avoid directly drenching the potting soil with freezing water, while in spring, watering with thawed water can promote healthy plant growth.

Fertilizing is an essential source for flowers to bloom, so you cannot be lazy about it either. During its growing period, it must be given liquid fertilizer or slow-release fertilizer once every two weeks. This can provide it with enough nutrients so it grows healthier and stronger.

However, it is also prone to pests and diseases, with common pests such as aphids and red spider mites coming to cause trouble. So usually we need to pay more attention. If signs of pests or diseases are found, we must quickly find a way to deal with them, so that the plant we grow can stay healthy and beautiful all along.
