The ornamental peach (Prunus persica), belonging to the rose family (Rosaceae) and the genus Prunus, is a variety of peach with a long history of cultivation in China, where it is deeply loved by people.

The ornamental peach is highly ornamental in bloom, with colors ranging from pale pink and deep red to white, making for an extremely rich palette. The petals come in many forms: single petals are simple and elegant, while double petals layer upon layer, delicate and soft. The petals spread open with golden stamens dotted among them, gleaming brightly in the sunlight.

The ornamental peach usually blooms from March to April each year. Due to regional climate differences, the bloom period comes a little earlier in the warm southern regions and a little later in the north. The flowering period generally lasts 15 to 20 days, and if the weather stays steadily mild, it will be extended accordingly.

The ornamental peach is not only beautiful but also rich in floral symbolism. It symbolizes the captive of love and is often used to express longing for and pursuit of love. At romantic occasions such as weddings and confessions, ornamental peach blossoms are often used as decorations, conveying a signal of sweet happiness. At the same time, the ornamental peach also signifies a beautiful life; when in full bloom, its profusion of flowers represents a colorful and prosperous life, carrying people's beautiful hopes for the future

In terms of care, the ornamental peach needs a suitable environment. It loves light and should be planted in a spot with ample sunlight, ensuring at least 6 hours of sunlight per day to promote photosynthesis, so that the plant grows strong and the flowers are more vivid. The ornamental peach is drought-tolerant but not waterlogging-tolerant, so the soil needs to be loose, fertile and well-drained.

Follow the principle of "do not water until dry, and water thoroughly when you do" to prevent waterlogging and root rot. Fertilize mainly with organic fertilizer, applying once before flowering in spring and once after leaf fall in autumn. Spring fertilization promotes flower bud differentiation, while autumn fertilization helps the plant accumulate nutrients and overwinter safely.

During the winter dormant period, the plant can be shaped and pruned by cutting off dead branches, diseased branches and leggy growth, keeping the tree shape attractive and promoting the sprouting of new branches the following year. In addition, the ornamental peach is susceptible to pests such as aphids and spider mites, so check regularly and control them promptly. Biological control or low-toxicity pesticides can be used to ensure healthy plant growth.
