Malus crabapple and begonia differ by only one character in their names, yet they are not the same type of flower, and they show clear differences in botanical characteristics, appearance, growth habits, and other aspects.

From the perspective of botanical classification, Malus crabapple belongs to the order Rosales, family Rosaceae, genus Malus and genus Chaenomeles, and is a relatively common woody plant.

Begonia, by contrast, belongs to the order Cucurbitales, family Begoniaceae, genus Begonia, and is a typical herbaceous plant, so the two are quite different in their botanical "origins."

In terms of appearance, the branches and trunks of Malus crabapple are clearly woody, and it can grow into a tree or shrub, usually 1-8 m tall, with an upright trunk and a full crown. The leaves of Malus crabapple are generally oval or oblong, with serrated edges; the leaf texture is relatively thick, dark green on the upper side and light green on the underside, and glossy.

Begonia, on the other hand, is mostly a low-growing herb, usually under 1 m tall, with a relatively delicate plant body; its stems are mostly fleshy and often tinged with red. Its leaves are rich and varied in shape; some are asymmetrical heart shapes, some have obvious wavy edges or lobes, and the undersides of some cultivars' leaves are purplish red.

The flowering period and flower characteristics can also help everyone distinguish the two. The flowering period of Malus crabapple is mainly in spring, from April to May; the flowers are usually in umbel-like racemes, relatively large, with a diameter of up to 4-5 cm, and the petal colors are rich, including white, pink, red, and so on. Double-flowered forms are the majority, with petals layered over one another, very delicate and charming.

The flowering period of begonia is mostly concentrated in autumn, though special cultivars such as wax begonia can bloom all year round if cared for properly. The flowers of begonia are relatively small, mostly in cymes, with thin petals, and the flower colors are generally red, pink, white, and so on; the petals of some cultivars also have unique textures or spots.

In terms of growth habits, Malus crabapple mostly prefers a sunny, well-ventilated environment, is relatively strong in cold tolerance, and many cultivars can overwinter outdoors in the north; its requirements for soil are not very strict either, and it can grow well in loose, fertile, well-drained soil.

Begonia, by contrast, prefers a warm, humid, semi-shaded environment, has weaker cold tolerance, and needs good warmth protection in winter. It has higher requirements for soil air permeability and water retention, and prefers slightly acidic soil.

In short, although their names are similar, Malus crabappleand begonia differ significantly in classification, appearance, flowering period, growth habits, and other aspects.
