What kind of plant is Lychnis senno, and what does its shape resemble?
Today we introduce a perennial herbaceous plant with high ornamental value and medicinal properties. Its name is "Lychnis senno" (catchfly), belonging to the carnation family (Caryophyllaceae). After blooming, its petals look as if they have been carefully trimmed, with serrated edges, and when fully open they are as silky as satin. It also has a long blooming period, is suitable for planting in sunny spots, and carries a faint fresh fragrance. In addition, besides serving as an ornamental plant, it also has the medicinal value of clearing heat and detoxifying, and cooling blood to stop bleeding.

In the flower market, Lychnis senno is not hard to find. In terms of care, it is a true "sun lover" - the stronger the light, the more vigorously it blooms. Its blooming period is mostly concentrated in June to July each year. At the same time, it is also a flower that can be grown outdoors in the north, because its cold resistance and heat resistance are extremely strong. As long as the weather is not extreme, it can grow well with proper protection.

Specifically, with about 4 to 6 hours of light per day, it is best to plant it in a sunny position. If the location is kept in shade for a long time, the buds may wither prematurely.

As for soil, Lychnis senno is best grown in fertile soil, such as a mix of garden soil, leaf mold and perlite. Make sure the bottom of the pot has drainage holes to prevent water accumulation that could cause root rot. As for watering, it can vary with the season. During the vigorous growing season, keep the soil slightly moist; in winter, keep the soil a little drier.

For watering, follow the principle of watering when dry and letting it dry between waterings, keeping the soil moist. In daily care, you can feel the potting soil with your hand. If it is too wet, do not water, because that can easily cause root rot. In addition, the watering method should also be done well. Try not to pour water directly from above the flowers; instead, water slowly from the side of the potting soil, so that the roots can slowly absorb water.

Fertilizing is an indispensable step in growing flowers and plants. For Lychnis senno, fertilization can be chosen according to its growth stage and soil fertility, such as compound fertilizers containing nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, to promote flower bud differentiation and make the flowers bloom more brightly and abundantly. It is recommended to apply it every 1 to 2 months during the growing period.
