In the fast-paced urban life, more and more flower lovers like to grow some beautiful flowers at home to relieve daily stress and irritation. Among the many flowers, the Phalaenopsis (moth orchid) is undoubtedly one of the most popular choices, simply because its elegant flower posture and long blooming period are the most appealing.

However, although many flower lovers will specifically study the relevant knowledge, they often easily overlook some key details, such as the fact that when the first flower bud of a Phalaenopsis is growing, its pot orientation must not be easily changed. So what is the scientific basis behind this?

Why can't the pot be easily moved before the first flower bud of a Phalaenopsis grows? This is mainly because of the influence of light, especially when small flower buds first appear, they are very sensitive to light. Once the pot is frequently moved during the bud growth period, the angle of light exposure will constantly change, causing the buds to grow in inconsistent directions, which may ultimately lead to flowers leaning in all directions and an overall messy and disordered flower shape.

Therefore, in order to ensure that the Phalaenopsis has a neat and beautiful flower shape, it is recommended to choose the placement direction of the pot before flowering. Before the first flower bud begins to grow, remember not to move or shift the pot at will. After the buds of the Phalaenopsis have basically taken shape and the flowers gradually bloom, the light direction can be appropriately adjusted to help those buds that have not yet fully opened receive light better and promote their even blooming.

Generally speaking, although water management for Phalaenopsis in home care is not particularly strict, special attention still needs to be paid to water accumulation around its root system, because its roots are very sensitive to excessive moisture and can easily rot with the slightest carelessness. Therefore, when watering, follow the principle of "water when dry, stop when wet"; there is no need to water frequently. As for fertilizing and pruning, let's talk about fertilizing first. This is overlooked by many flower lovers, who think the grower has already provided enough, but in fact that is not the case, because it is constantly consuming nutrients during growth, especially in spring and summer, so it is recommended to regularly apply orchid fertilizer.

As for pruning, if roots appear withered or grow too long, they need to be simply trimmed with sharp, clean scissors. Doing so can not only avoid wasting nutrients but also create a better growing environment for the plant.
