When you are out enjoying flowers, do you often find it hard to tell plum blossoms and peach blossoms apart? True enough, they both belong to the Rosaceae family, and when they bloom they are both soft and pink, so without looking closely it is easy to mix them up. But once you have mastered a few little tricks, telling them apart becomes much simpler!

Let's start with flowering time. Plum blossoms are extremely cold-hardy, often blooming in the depths of winter or in early spring, when the weather is still chilly;

Peach blossoms are different. They like warm weather, and generally only poke their heads out slowly in mid-spring, once temperatures have risen.

Now let's look at the flowers2 - 2.5cm; the petals are thick with a particularly nice texture, mostly five-petaled and round in shape, in colors of white, pale pink and red, with golden-yellow stamens in the center that look especially beautiful;

Peach blossoms usually open as a single flower on the branch, with a slightly larger flower diameter than plum blossoms, about 2.5 - 3.5cm; the petals are thin and soft, with single, semi-double and double forms, and the petal edges are a bit wavy. The color is mainly pink, and the stamens are slender and long, particularly vivid.

Besides the flowers, the branches differ too. Plum blossom branches are darker in color, purplish-brown or dark gray, with a surface that is not smooth and has cracks running along it; the twigs also bear thorn-like short shoots, giving them a real sense of weathering;

Peach blossom branches are lighter in color, reddish-brown or green, with a smooth surface; the twigs are very soft, drooping naturally, and look very graceful.

The meanings behind them are quite different too. In our culture, the plum blossom is a spiritual symbol: blooming amid ice and snow, it stands for a spirit of resilience and unyielding perseverance, inspiring people not to give up when they meet difficulties; at the same time, the plum blossom also symbolizes purity and elegant simplicity, and is the embodiment of a noble person. Peach blossoms, on the other hand, are more tied to love and marriage; they also represent a good life, carrying people's longing for days of plenty and peace.

Seen this way, there really are quite a few differences between plum blossoms and peach blossoms. Next time you see them, I believe you will be able to tell them apart at a glance!
