Didn't your narcissus (daffodil) add a lot of life to your home during the Spring Festival? But as soon as the flowering period ends, many people just throw the narcissus away, which is such a shame! In fact, with proper handling, narcissus can bloom again next year! Today we're going to share with you how to handle narcissus after it finishes blooming

Step 1: Prune after flowering

When the narcissus flowers begin to fade, first cut off the spent blooms to prevent them from consuming too many nutrients. When cutting, start from the base of the flower stem and snip it off cleanly with sharp scissors. Be gentle and don't damage the nearby leaves and bulb.

Step 2: Keep caring for the leaves

Some people may think that once the flowers fade, the leaves lose their value, but this is not the case. The leaves of the narcissus are like tiny green factories, continuously accumulating nutrients for the bulb through photosynthesis. Therefore, after the flowers fade, you still need to care for the leaves as before, making sure they get plenty of light and water. Place the narcissus in a spot with soft, bright light, avoid direct exposure to strong sun, and water as soon as the soil dries slightly, keeping it slightly moist.

Step 3: Move to soil culture

Wait until the leaves naturally wither, and the narcissus enters its dormant stage. This is the perfect time to transplant it into soil! Gently take the narcissus out of the water, remove the slime attached to the roots and any rotten roots, then plant it in loose, fertile soil with good drainage. When planting, be careful to leave one third of the bulb exposed above the soil surface so it can breathe and grow smoothly.

Step 4: Care during dormancy

After being planted in soil, the narcissus has entered its dormant stage. At this point, reduce the frequency of watering and keep the soil slightly dry. Place it in a cool, well-ventilated corner and keep the room temperature between 10 and 15°C. Do not disturb it frequently; let the narcissus rest well and store up plenty of energy.

Step 5: Wake it up for growth

When autumn arrives and the weather turns cool, the narcissus's dormant period ends. Then you can gradually increase watering, move it to a spot with plenty of sunlight, and let it come back to life. During this period, you can apply a little diluted liquid fertilizer as appropriate to promote sprouting and growth.

Handle it this way, and your narcissus will bloom year after year and become a permanent guest in your home! Not only can you save money on buying flowers, but you can also enjoy the fun of growing them.
