When walking on the road, sometimes strangers also have look-alike moments, and at this time you must look again and usually you can tell them apart, but once plants look alike it may be hard for people to distinguish them. Among them, pennywort and pilea count as plants with extremely high similarity, their leaves are similar, and especially for flower lovers who are new to the plant hobby it is easy not to tell them apart. If you also want to distinguish these two plants, let's learn about them together below.

Although pennywort and pilea are similar in form, distinguishing them is not as hard as imagined. Put them together at the same time, and the leaves and stems of the two plants each have their own characteristics. Looking at the leaves, the leaves of pennywort are round, feel very thin to the touch, have wavy splits at the leaf edges, and the leaf color is relatively emerald green, which is lighter compared with the leaf color of pilea; the leaf color of pilea is dark green, and although the leaves are also ovate, they feel fleshy and are relatively thick, with one end of the leaf edge rather pointed and the other end not very pointed. Looking at the stems, pennywort stems are thin and connect downward to the root system, while pilea stems are thicker.

From the perspective of attributes, pennywort and pilea belong to two different genera. Among them, pennywort is a fleshy herbaceous plant and grows at most about 2 to 13 cm. Pilea is a creeping herbaceous plant with upright stem nodes, so it can reach about 8 to 37 at most. By comparison, the pilea plant is larger overall.

From the perspective of flowers, these two plants are also different. Among them, pilea flower buds are very small, like needles, and the male and female flowers are not entirely the same in form. Male flowers have purplish-red pedicels and 4 tepals, and are obovate; female flowers have no pedicels and have 3 tepals. Pennywort bracts have a layer of membranous covering and are also like needles. During the bud stage they are emerald green, and after blooming they become white. The flowers are solitary, the flower form is umbellate, and the inflorescence peduncle is longer than the petiole.

Next, from the perspective of flower language, the leaf shape of pilea is like a mirror, and people give it the meanings of "continuous good luck" and "reunion and completeness," symbolizing an open and upright character in doing things. The shape of pennywort is rounder, like ancient copper coins, and represents "wealth rolling in" and "reunion and completeness."
