When Does Tuberose Bloom? Care and Planting Methods Explained
Tuberose

Tuberose mainly blooms from July to September

Tuberose is not only safe and harmless, but every part of it is a treasure. Its flowers can be used for ornamental purposes, and can also be extracted to produce fragrances and essential oils for making perfumes and other beauty care products. In addition, tuberose flowers are also edible and can be paired with a variety of ingredients to create unique flavors. Its roots have medicinal value and help clear heat toxins from the body.

Tuberose is mainly propagated through division of bulbs. From March to April, take out healthy bulbs and soak them so they fully absorb water. Bulbs with a diameter of 2 cm or more can bloom in the same year, while smaller ones need to wait until the following year.

Tuberose seeds germinate best at temperatures between 25°C and 30°C, and will break through the soil about one week after sowing. If planting in the ground, choose a sunny plot with good drainage, apply base fertilizer, and then plow deeply and harrow finely. If growing in pots, ensure the potting soil is loose and fertile, and apply an appropriate amount of decomposed fertilizer as base fertilizer.

In daily care

During the growing period, tuberose needs the soil to stay moist, but waterlogging should be avoided. Before the flower stems emerge and before flowering, it needs thorough watering; after flowering, fertilizer and water management should be strengthened to promote bulb growth. In the early stage of growth, emphasis should be placed on applying nitrogen fertilizer. During the growing period, apply dilute cake liquid fertilizer 3 to 4 times a month, especially more before the flower stems emerge and before flowering; during hot summer weather, reduce the frequency of fertilization. Check the plant regularly to detect and deal with pests and diseases in time.
Winter is the dormant period for tuberose, and warmth-retention measures are needed. Move the plant indoors or into a greenhouse for care, keep the indoor temperature suitable, and reduce the frequency of watering and fertilization to ensure the plant safely gets through the winter.
