Is Curcuma alismatifolia afraid of the cold? A detailed guide to growing methods and precautions
As living conditions get better and better, many people like to grow some flowers and plants to cultivate their mood, while also beautifying the environment and purifying the air. Flowers that bloom with bright colors and a fragrant scent are especially popular. Today I am sharing a "Curcuma alismatifolia" (Siam tulip) that looks extremely similar to ginger in appearance, and after blooming has large petals like a lotus, with bright colors that are especially eye-catching overall.

Curcuma alismatifolia belongs to the bulbous flowers of the Zingiberaceae family. It is mostly planted in spring, and the flowering period is generally from early May to mid-to-late October each year, with flower colors including purple, pink, white, and so on. In the flower market, in winter you mostly buy potted Curcuma alismatifolia, while in spring you can find bulbs to grow yourself.

Generally speaking, after buying the potted plant, you can first place it in a sunny spot, because it loves light very much, and only with plenty of sunlight will it be favorable for flowering. The optimal growing temperature is between 20 and 30 degrees Celsius. Its cold tolerance in winter is poor, and it can only tolerate a minimum of above 10 degrees Celsius. If the temperature is lower than that, try to move it back indoors for care.

As for watering, Curcuma alismatifolia likes water. The most important thing in care is to give it clear, clean water, such as filtered water or deionized water, which are most suitable. Avoid water with high chlorine content, otherwise it will cause an imbalance in its pH and affect its health. In addition, in winter the north wind is strong and easily causes dryness, so at this time you need to appropriately increase the watering frequency, while during the more humid "hui nan tian" (return of southerly winds) period you need to reduce the number of waterings.

As for soil, if compaction occurs, loosen the soil, and choose to grow it in neutral or slightly acidic soil. If what you bought is a bulb, you can choose a mixed soil for growing flowers: 1 part garden soil, 1 part river sand, 2 parts decomposed humus soil. After fully mixing, it can be used for planting.

As for fertilizer, which is indispensable in daily flower growing, during the growth period of Curcuma alismatifolia you can use nitrogen fertilizer, phosphorus fertilizer, potassium fertilizer, compound fertilizer, and so on. When the temperature exceeds the suitable range for growth, pause fertilizing.

Finally, regarding pests and diseases, Curcuma alismatifolia is mainly susceptible to attack by moths, mole crickets, and so on. If related disease or pest problems are found, you can use pesticides such as methamidophos, dimehypo (shachongshuang), and carbendazim. The recommended spraying frequency is to alternate them about every 15 days.
