How long is the flowering period of potted angelonia? It is heat-tolerant and sun-tolerant.
Today I introduce a flower that is very easy for beginners to care for: the tenacious "angelonia" (Angelonia). It is said to be easy to grow because it tolerates high temperatures, grows vigorously, and has an extremely long flowering period. Even if you just grow it casually, it can bloom into a large sea of flowers for you, and it is suitable for planting in Guangdong, Fujian and other places.

Angelonia belongs to the genus Angelonia in the family Scrophulariaceae. It is native to Mexico and other regions, and now varieties are cultivated all over the world. In appearance, the flowers are solitary in the upper part of the stem, and the flowering form is a raceme, with white, pink, blue, etc. The flowering period can last from June to September, and in high-temperature regions it can bloom all year round. It is relatively easy to buy in the flower market, generally priced around 20-40, and is mainly grown as potted plants. So how do you care for it after buying it home? It is not very cold-tolerant and prefers warmth and humidity. The suitable temperature is 18-35°C. When it is below 5°C, it needs to be moved indoors promptly, and at the same time a certain air humidity cycle needs to be maintained to ensure its growth.

Generally, when purchased from the flower market, it comes with soil, but if you later find that the soil has become compacted, you should loosen the soil for it. At this time, it is recommended to choose a loose, fertile, well-drained soil mix. It is best to use rice husk ash, dried sugarcane bagasse, and garden soil mixed at 1:1:2. When repotting, carefully check whether there are overly old or overly long roots, and cut off these roots that compete for nutrients.

Then regarding fertilizing, because angelonia has a particularly long flowering period, fertilizer must keep up. It likes fertilizer, and it wants heavy, concentrated fertilizer. One week after potting, apply some phosphorus and potassium fertilizer, such as Peters Professional No. 2 or monopotassium phosphate (diluted 1:1000 for spraying and root drenching), then apply a top dressing once every 10 days, especially during the flowering period. Regular fertilizing can keep the flowers blooming continuously. In daily care, if you find that the number of flowers has noticeably decreased, you can do a pruning and tidying. When pruning, you can cut off the side branches on top of the flowers, overly long branches, spent flowers and yellow leaves, to promote new branch growth and maintain the vitality of the angelonia.
