As the Lunar New Year approaches, when counting the most popular indoor potted plants, the Phalaenopsis orchid certainly holds a place, as its blooms are gorgeous and its varieties diverse, bringing people infinite beautiful meanings. However, while enjoying the blooming of Phalaenopsis orchids, have we ever paid attention to the management of their roots? When tidying up the roots of Phalaenopsis orchids in spare time, what should be noted? Let's explore this together from the perspective of flower-growing knowledge in the following text.

As is well known, roots are the survival foundation of every plant, and Phalaenopsis orchids are no exception. The main characteristics of the roots are their functions of natural respiration, water absorption, and nutrient uptake for the plant. Therefore, given the fleshy root characteristics of orchids, we need to maintain an appropriate length and number for them, so as to create healthy growth conditions for the plant.

How should the roots be tidied up properly? First, pay attention to the length of the fleshy roots. It is usually recommended to leave a fleshy root length of 3 to 5 cm, which can sufficiently satisfy the root absorption area, while not affecting its growth and development due to being too long.

Second, the number of roots needs to be controlled. Generally speaking, keeping about 3 to 8 roots per plant is sufficient, because too many roots actually affect its water and nutrient absorption. Finally, during the pruning process, we also recommend using rooting agents to promote the growth of new roots, because rooting agents can supply as much as possible the basic nutrients needed by new roots, and subsequently enable the plant to grow strong as quickly as possible.

In addition, in subsequent care, the maintenance environment should also be followed. In terms of care, indoor humidity should be maintained between 50%-80%. Do not place it in strong winds or harsh sunlight, to prevent sudden temperature changes. In winter, it needs to be kept warm, while in summer, appropriate ventilation and cooling are needed. For daily watering, follow the principle of "rather dry than wet," and promptly pour out the water at the bottom of the flower pot after watering, to avoid water soaking the roots. In terms of fertilizing, fertilizers rich in phosphorus and potassium can be used regularly to enhance the toughness of the flower stems. By paying attention to the above points in daily care, flower-growing enthusiasts can easily grow the most satisfactory Phalaenopsis orchids.
