Hydroponic plants are loved for their good looks and easy care, but during the care process, how to secure the plants is a headache for many people. Here are some practical tips for securing hydroponic plants:

Basic Securing Methods

1. Glass beads:

Features: Round and translucent, not only attractive but also able to play a securing role.

How to use: Choose glass beads with a diameter of about 0.5~1cm, spread a layer 2~3cm thick at the bottom of the bottle, and gently insert the plant roots into it.

2. Vermiculite:

Features: Natural, sterile, lightweight texture, and strong water absorption.

How to use: Soak the vermiculite in water to let it fully absorb water, then bury the plant roots in the vermiculite, and place it into the hydroponic container.

Clever Securing Methods

1. Sponge securing method:

Suitable plants: Plants with relatively thin stems, such as hydroponic pothos and spider plant.

How to do it: Prepare a thin sponge, cut it into a suitable shape, dig a hole in the middle of the sponge, pass the plant stem through it, and let the bottom of the sponge touch the water surface.

 2. Branch support method:

Suitable plants: Taller plants or plants prone to lodging, such as lucky bamboo.

How to do it: Choose a branch of moderate thickness, trim it to a suitable length, insert it into the hydroponic bottle, lean the plant stem against the branch, and gently tie it in place with thin hemp rope.

Advanced Securing Methods

1. Custom hydroponic baskets:

Suitable plants: Bulb flowers, such as hydroponic tulips and hyacinths.

How to do it: Use wire mesh or plastic grid to make your own hydroponic basket, place the plant in the basket, let the roots pass through the mesh holes and dip into the water, and secure the basket opening to the edge of the container with hooks or by wedging it.

 2. 3DPrinting securing stands:

Features: Personalized, precise, and highly customizable.

How to do it: According to the plant species and container shape, design a unique securing structure, such as a ring-shaped or column-shaped stand with slots and holes, then 3Dprint it out, perfectly fitting the curves of the plant roots and stems.

Other Securing Methods

 1. Use stable stands: For tall plants, you can use dedicated stable stands to secure them and prevent the plants from falling over and breaking.

 2. Use root protection netting: Root protection netting is a material that can be used to protect plant roots, and it can prevent the plant roots from stretching out and swinging arbitrarily.

 3. Use cotton thread: Pass cotton thread through the plant stem and tie it to a foam board; cotton thread is easy to adjust and reconfigure, making it suitable for securing plants of different sizes and shapes.

 4. Use stones: Cleaned stones can provide stable support for plants and also increase the stability of the hydroponic environment.

 5. Use dedicated holders: Dedicated hydroponic holders are available on the market, made of lightweight materials that will not burden the plants; when using them, secure the holder to the edge of the container, then place the plant into the holder.

Precautions

 1. When securing plants, make sure not to cause harm to the plants, while also ensuring the stable growth of the plants.

 2. Regularly check the condition of the plants and the securing situation, and promptly adjust and correct any unstable areas.

 3. Choose a suitable securing method according to the characteristics of the plant to achieve the best securing effect.
