Is the Phalaenopsis easy to grow? Home cultivation methods and precautions
As is well known, the Phalaenopsis has won the hearts of many flower lovers with its elegant bearing and delicate flower shape. At the same time, however, the care involved in growing Phalaenopsis makes many people feel intimidated. Some say that growing a Phalaenopsis is like raising a baby, requiring careful tending and patient care. But for veteran friends who have been at it for many years, growing a Phalaenopsis is actually not that difficult; as long as you master the right methods, you can easily grow it well at home too.

To grow a Phalaenopsis well at home, the first thing is to choose the right potting mix; the Phalaenopsis likes a potting environment that is loose and well drained. Therefore, when choosing soil, it is recommended to give preference to a special orchid mix made by blending coconut coir, perlite and the like. At the same time, the flower pot should also be made of a material with relatively many drainage holes, such as finished ceramic or plastic pots, which can ensure that excess water drains away in time.

Next is sensible watering. The Phalaenopsis actually has rather special water needs: it must not dry out, and at the same time it must not be waterlogged, so when watering you should follow the principle of watering when dry and stopping when wet. Specifically, it is suggested that you feel the surface soil of the pot with your hand and only water when you find it slightly dry, and when you water, water thoroughly without leaving any standing water; also be careful to maintain the humidity in the air, and it is recommended to spray some water mist around the plant often to increase humidity.

Then, during care it needs sufficient light, because the Phalaenopsis likes diffused light, that is, it likes bright sunlight that is not direct, so when growing it at home you can place it on an indoor windowsill, balcony or similar spot. If the indoor light is insufficient, you can also use a grow light later on to supplement its light.
Finally there is the fertilizing step that is indispensable to growing flowers, and the Phalaenopsis is no exception. During its growing period it needs nutrients supplemented, and it is recommended to fertilize it regularly; you can buy orchid fertilizer or compound fertilizer from a specialty store. When fertilizing, be sure to read the instructions and pay close attention to the concentration, which must not be too high, to avoid burning the roots. At the same time, according to the growth condition of the Phalaenopsis, you can also appropriately add phosphorus and potassium fertilizer and other trace elements as a supplement.
