Are Iris and Acorus the same flower? What is the difference between the two
The world is vast and full of wonders, especially in the plant kingdom. For people who are not very familiar with flowers and plants, putting them side by side often makes them impossible to tell apart. Among them, the similarity between Acorus flowers and Iris flowers is such that even professionals sometimes confuse them. So, in everyday flower markets, how can these two plants be quickly distinguished? Let's take a look together below.

Acorus flower
The main producing countries of the Acorus flower are the United States, the Netherlands, Israel, Japan and other countries. In recent years it has been cultivated in various parts of China, generally distributed in Guangdong, Sichuan, Fujian, Jilin, Liaoning, Shenzhen and other places. It is a plant that loves warmth, with an optimum growth temperature between 20-25 degrees Celsius, and its corms can sprout in soil at 5 degrees Celsius. However, if the temperature is higher than 30 degrees Celsius or lower than 15 degrees Celsius, it may face yellowing leaves or stop growing.

Iris flower
The Iris flower originated in central China and Japan. There are about 300 species of Iris in the world, of which about 60 species, 13 varieties and 5 forms are produced in China. At the same time, its rhizome contains an emetic or mild purgative, so it can have a medicinal anti-inflammatory effect. Another special thing about the Iris flower is that most of its seeds have a dormant characteristic, so if left to germinate naturally, it takes at least about 1 year.
Even though the Acorus flower and the Iris flower have similarities, they are two flowers belonging to different genera. The Acorus flower belongs to Acorus, while the Iris flower belongs to the genus Iris, so their plants and flowers are different. In terms of the plant, the Acorus flower is taller than the Iris flower, and although the Iris flower is a little more delicate, its flowers are larger than those of the Acorus flower.

In addition, they can also be quickly distinguished by their scent and flowering period. As for scent, Acorus leaves have a natural fresh fragrance, while the Iris flower basically has no smell at all. As for the flowering period, the Iris flower's flowering period is concentrated only in May, while the Acorus flowering period can last as long as 4 months, with flowers to enjoy from May to August. If one sets aside distinguishing them in the flower market, they can also be easily distinguished in their growing environment. Because Acorus likes damp places, it mostly grows beside small streams or next to farm rice paddies, while by comparison the Iris flower is mostly seen in land environments.
