Is the five-needle pine easy to grow? Solutions for yellowing and withering leaves
In recent years, a kind of bonsai plant has become very popular among young people: the five-needle pine, which has been well cultivated in Japan. Among five-needle pines there are many varieties, and those with short needles and tight branches are considered the best in appearance, so their prices rise accordingly, and a pot selling for 5-8 thousand is also common.

Throughout the whole care process, the five-needle pine is one of the plants that grows slowly and stays evergreen in all four seasons, so in daily care, fertilizing it is not the focus; usually a light fertilizer is enough, and during its growth you can give it fertilizer supplementing nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium nutrients, because only with balanced nutrition will its leaves be glossy green.

Then in the care of the five-needle pine, the key attention is water absorption. It is a plant that likes water, but at the same time it most fears waterlogged potting soil, so after every watering be sure to check whether water remains at the bottom of the pot, and if so, pour it out, otherwise its roots can easily suffer from lack of oxygen, and in serious cases the roots may even die. Second, another key point in care is that it cannot be repotted every other year, because since it grows slowly, repotting too often will instead disturb root development; it is recommended to repot once every 4 years.

As a conifer, it likes light, so in daily care it cannot always be kept in a dark indoor place; it should be moved out to the balcony to get more sun, otherwise when photosynthesis becomes weak, its leaves will gradually turn yellow. Among the four seasons, besides giving it more care in summer, at noon it needs to be moved away from places with strong light, and shade measures should be taken when necessary to prevent the plant from sunburn, while in the other seasons there is not much to fuss over; normal bright light is enough for normal growth.
Finally, in daily care, if the five-needle pine has many yellow and withered leaves, then pay attention to whether it is caused by a temperature that makes it uncomfortable. The five-needle pine likes warmth, and its growing temperature is around 25 degrees; if the temperature is too low or too high, it may directly affect its normal growth. In summer when temperatures are high, be careful to use a shade net, and in winter when temperatures are low, put a black plastic bag over it at night and move it to a warm indoor place for care.
