Petunia is a perennial herbaceous plant, but it is usually grown as an annual or biennial. Its blooming period is remarkably long, lasting from spring all the way to autumn, and in some places with suitable climate it can even bloom all year round!

As for cold tolerance, petunia is not very frost-hardy, and around 0 degrees it is already a bit risky, and if the temperature drops any lower, it may suffer frostbite or even freeze to death, so those in the north really need to take good care of it in winter.

Now let's talk about how to grow it:

Soil: Petunia likes loose, fertile, well-draining soil. You can mix peat moss, perlite and vermiculite in a certain ratio; this kind of soil is airy and nutritious, and petunia will be very comfortable living in it.

Light: Petunia loves basking in the sun, like a little sun-loving flower sprite. Give it at least  6  hours or more of light each day; the more light it gets, the more vigorously it grows, and the more and brighter flowers it produces. But the midday sun in summer is too harsh, so shade it a little to keep it from getting sunburned.

Watering: Petunia likes moisture but is afraid of waterlogging. Normally wait until the soil surface is dry before watering, and water thoroughly when you do. Never water it for no reason, or the roots will rot and that will not be good.

Fertilizing: During the peak growing season, give petunia some nutrients. You can apply some diluted liquid fertilizer, such as Huaduoduo  1 , about once every 10  days. When it reaches the flower bud differentiation stage, switch to Huaduoduo  2  to make it bloom more.

There are also quite a few things to watch out for:

Pruning petunia is very important! Cut off the spent flowers promptly after they fade, otherwise they will consume nutrients. You can also prune it appropriately at ordinary times to make the plant shape more attractive and promote side branch growth, so it will bloom even more.

Petunia is prone to diseases and pests such as powdery mildew and aphids. Make sure there is plenty of ventilation, and if you notice signs of pests or disease, quickly treat them with the corresponding medicine, and do not let them get out of control.
