Umbrella Plant: Benefits, Uses and Care Tips to Keep It Greener and Thriving
In retirement life, many people like to choose some magical plants. They not only fill your time, but once grown, they also offer various surprising medicinal values. The magical plant mentioned above is the "umbrella plant."

The name "umbrella plant" sounds very ordinary, and its appearance resembles a green pinwheel or the ribs of an umbrella, which is why it is also called umbrella sedge. It is mostly used as a companion grass in flower arrangements, and can also be used as a bonsai plant or as green grass to decorate the crevices of rockeries. At the same time, in traditional Chinese medicine, the umbrella plant can not only clear heat and detoxify and prevent heatstroke, but also has significant diuretic, anti-swelling and pain-relieving effects. In terms of daily care, as a foliage plant, it can be grown hydroponically or in pots. First, for potted care: it prefers shady, humid, warm and ventilated environments, and its cold tolerance is not too poor. As long as the winter care temperature is kept above 5°C, there will basically be no problems.

In terms of light, in a warm and humid environment, about 4 hours of scattered light is enough to keep it evergreen, but if it is placed in direct sunlight, its leaves will easily turn yellow and scorch, so be careful to shade it in time in summer.
In terms of soil, the umbrella plant is not too picky. For later soil turning, it is recommended to use two parts peat soil with one part river sand and one part peat soil; this kind of soil is very favorable for the umbrella plant to grow well. If you have a professional acid-testing tool, it is best to keep the soil pH between 5.5 and 6.5. In terms of watering, it originally grows in ponds, so it lives for a long time in swampy, waterlogged conditions, and the soil should remain moist for a long time. Rainwater is best for watering. Overall, as long as there is moisture, it can grow better. The same applies to hydroponics: in daily care, you only need to change the clean water regularly, and at a suitable temperature it will stay evergreen.

Finally, pruning is also an important part of plant care. When you usually see drooping yellow leaves or withered old leaves, cut them off in time with scissors. Otherwise, these aging leaves can easily affect its ornamental value and make it prone to pest infection.
