How do you care for Rangoon creeper (Combretum indicum) so it blooms? Growing methods and precautions
Today we introduce a perennial evergreen plant that is deeply loved by older people. Its name is "Rangoon creeper" (Combretum indicum). The reason it is so beloved is that it bears clusters of pinwheel-like flowers, and the flower color changes over time: when it first opens it is white, then it gradually takes on color and turns red, giving it fairly high ornamental value. At the same time, when it blooms it also gives off a fragrance that delights both body and mind.

The flowering period of Rangoon creeper is generally from May to October, and it is very suitable for growing in the south. Its optimum growing temperature is between 20-30°C. It likes warmth and is not cold-tolerant. You can place it on a balcony. Apart from needing appropriate shading in summer and being moved back indoors for care in winter, it can be kept on the balcony at all other times of the year, letting it absorb sufficient light.

When growing plants at home, watering is the key to daily care. Rangoon creeper likes moisture and is not drought-tolerant, and the soil prefers a moist environment. Therefore, after watering you can feel the soil condition; slightly moist is best. At the same time, you also need to check the bottom of the pot. If there is standing water, pour it out promptly, otherwise it can easily lead to dampness and root rot. For watering, it is recommended to water relatively more frequently during the vigorous growth period (spring to summer), while in autumn and winter it should be reduced moderately, keeping it in a slightly dry state.
Generally speaking, at the flower market the shopkeeper will provide a well-formulated high-quality garden soil. During long-term care later on, if the soil becomes compacted, you can replace the soil for it. For Rangoon creeper, it is recommended to use a mixed soil rich in organic matter and with good air permeability. You can choose leaf mold, garden soil and perlite mixed in appropriate proportions to ensure the soil can both retain water and drain quickly.

To ensure that Rangoon creeper stays evergreen and blooms, regular fertilizing is indispensable. It is recommended to apply a dilute organic fertilizer once every half month during the vigorous growth period (spring to summer). Later, when there are flower buds, you can increase the application of phosphorus and potassium fertilizer to promote flowering, while in winter fertilizing should be stopped. In addition, when caring for Rangoon creeper you also need to prune it and set up supports at the right time; doing so helps it climb well and display a splendid scene of abundant blooms.
