Today we introduce a small work of art that seems to come from nature itself: the radiant gem from southern Africa, Lobelia. The reason this flower has become popular in recent years is that its flowering period is very long (4-6 months), and after it blooms, the flowers display deep blue tones, dazzling and refined against the sunlight.

Lobelia can easily be found in botanical gardens, and in courtyards it can be placed appropriately in flower beds; it is also suitable for growing as a potted plant. In appearance its flowers are not large, with 5 petals, of which 3 are relatively large, and in the center there are yellow-white markings that guide insects to collect nectar, while the other two are smaller and look like a pair of little ears.

If it is placed on an indoor windowsill, it can also brighten the home's beauty. When growing Lobelia at home, its suitable growth temperature is between 15°C-26°C; it likes light, and can be given at least 6 hours of direct sunlight a day, which can make its flowers bloom better and the colors more vivid. However, when sunlight is insufficient in winter and early spring, artificial supplementary lighting is needed.

When caring for it, the soil should be as loose and well-drained sandy soil as possible; if conditions permit, some humus can be added as a base fertilizer, which helps its nutrient absorption. As for watering and fertilizing, water about once every 7-10 days. Before watering, you can touch the soil with your hand; if you find it slightly dry, you should replenish the water. In addition, each time you water, it is best to slowly pour it in from the side of the flowerpot, and be sure not to pour it directly on the leaves, because this can easily cause disease. As for fertilizing, it is enough to apply a nitrogen fertilizer once a week during the growing season to support healthy plant growth.

As for routine pruning, its leaves and stems tend to grow leggy, so regular pruning is needed to keep it neat and attractive, and this can help prevent nutrients from flowing to decayed leaves. In addition, regarding medicinal value, Lobelia has been found to have certain medicinal effects, including efficacy for symptoms such as painful swelling and sores, and bruises and injuries. By following the above care points, Lobelia can thrive at home and display its beautiful form.
