More than half a year has passed in the blink of an eye, and winter has arrived without a sound. In an increasingly cold environment, these evergreen plants must be raised with "tough love," otherwise they may take in too many nutrients and die in no time.

Pothos

Pothos (Epipremnum aureum) can be considered an evergreen plant that almost every household has grown, because it not only purifies the air but is also very easy to keep alive. However, after winter arrives, in southern homes without heating, it will stop growing once the temperature drops below 15°C, and at this time you must wait until the potting soil is completely dry before watering. In the north, where there is heating, pothos can be watered normally at a constant temperature of around 20°C. But in winter, when plants enter a semi-dormant state, the soil does not absorb nutrients well, so fertilization must be stopped.

For winter care, the most suitable temperature for pothos to grow is around 20°C. If it is below 10°C, pay attention to keeping it warm, and when keeping it warm do not place it too close to a radiator, because it will damage the leaves, branches, and root system. In addition, it is recommended to let it bask in the sun more during the daytime in winter, as this can improve its immunity.

Money Tree

The money tree (Pachira aquatica) is about as cold-tolerant as pothos. In winter, if the ambient temperature is below 10°C, it will develop yellow leaves and drop leaves, and then the whole plant will enter a dormant state. At this time, growers only need to give it a little water each day, and must not pour too much water on it, otherwise it will damage its root system. At the same time, it must not be fertilized, otherwise too many nutrients will also cause the whole tree to die. Therefore, for winter care, water the money tree once every 1 to 2 months, and on sunny days move it into the sun to bask, which can ease the leaf-dropping and yellow-leaf condition.

Snake Plant

Snake plant (Sansevieria trifasciata), also called tiger skin plant, thousand-year plant, and so on, has the effect of absorbing harmful gases when kept at home. In addition, it is also very suitable for lazy people in terms of care, and it can basically maintain an evergreen state without much tending. However, in winter, if the temperature drops below about 16°C, it will enter a dormant state, and at this time it will no longer grow, so do not fertilize it, and reduce the frequency of watering.

For winter care, it is recommended to water once every 2 months or so. When it enters dormancy, growers can take the opportunity to repot it into a pot they like. However, when changing the pot, appropriately trim some of the withered old roots, then separate the small offsets and replant them.
