Today I'm sharing an annual herbaceous plant native to Mexico, "sulfur cosmos," which is also considered a type of the well-known cosmos. In appearance, it mainly features golden-yellow and orange flowers; in recent years, there have also been varieties improved into yellow or maroon, with both single and double petals. If you choose a large flower pot, it will subsequently bloom with larger flowers and deeper colors, while flowers in small pots are smaller and lighter in color.

Besides its brightly colored flowers and varied forms, sulfur cosmos also has a flowering period as long as 2 to 3 months. In the flower market, it is mainly grown in pots, and it can be placed on a balcony, terrace, or in a sunny living room, study, and similar locations. In home care, first of all, it needs sufficient light, no less than 6 hours of full-day sunlight every day. If you can only place it in a dark place, it may affect the number of flowers and the depth of their color.

Its suitable temperature is between 15°C and 30°C. As long as it does not exceed this range, it can basically bloom. It is not tolerant of winter, especially in cold or frosty places, so it must be placed in a warm space, otherwise the potted plant will die. Next is the soil requirement: sulfur cosmos prefers alkaline soil areas, so the suitable soil pH is 6.0-8.5. In addition, you can choose a pot with many holes in the bottom to ensure good air permeability and drainage.

Finally, regarding watering and fertilizing, it is drought-tolerant but not waterlogged, and the soil must be avoided from soaking in water, especially in the rainy season, when prevention must be taken in advance. Generally speaking, just water when the soil surface is dry. As for fertilizing, during the peak growing season (that is, spring to summer), apply a balanced liquid fertilizer every 2-3 weeks, which helps the plant grow luxuriantly and bloom.

It should be noted that sulfur cosmos likes light, so remember to frequently adjust the plant's position so that it can make full use of sunlight. As for pests, although it is not prone to pests, in early summer, aphids are likely to grow near its new shoots. If found, it is necessary to appropriately spray fungicide.
