In busy city life, many flower lovers like to grow some pleasing "flowers" at home to soothe their daily frayed nerves, and when it comes to the most popular flower, Phalaenopsis (moth orchid) definitely ranks among the top. However, when it comes to caring for Phalaenopsis, many people only know the general idea and overlook many small details. The most commonly overlooked action is that when the first flower bud of a Phalaenopsis is growing, you must not easily change the direction its pot is facing. So why is there such a rule?

Why can't a Phalaenopsis be easily moved before its first flower bud has grown? This is because light exposure can easily become uneven, and as the later flower buds grow they will lean this way and that, making the flower shape very unattractive. The reason is that Phalaenopsis flower buds are very quick to respond to light; once the buds begin to grow, they gradually adjust to grow toward the side closer to the sunlight.

Therefore, to ensure the Phalaenopsis has a good flower shape later on, you can adjust the direction the pot faces before the orchid blooms, and before the first flower bud begins to grow, do not move or shift it at will, so as not to affect the growth direction of the buds. After the Phalaenopsis has grown further, you can appropriately adjust the direction of the light; doing so can help some buds that have not yet fully opened.

Generally speaking, when it comes to Phalaenopsis care, it is not strict about water management either, but standing water must be avoided, so there is no need to worry too much about watering. In addition, Phalaenopsis occasionally needs fertilizing and pruning. As for fertilizing, it is recommended to apply an appropriate amount of fertilizer to the Phalaenopsis regularly; you can choose a specialized orchid fertilizer, dilute it according to the recommended ratio on the instructions, and then use it. As for pruning, if any roots wither or grow too long, you can do a little simple trimming.

In short, although moving the pot seems like an insignificant little detail, it is the key action that determines whether the Phalaenopsis will have better ornamental value later on. So when growing Phalaenopsis at home, besides paying attention to keeping the pot's facing direction fixed, you should also focus on creating a familiar growing environment for the Phalaenopsis.
