Are white orchid and white magnolia the same? Let me teach you how to tell them apart
I believe many friends often confuse these two plants, white orchid and white magnolia, because in addition to their somewhat similar names, they also look fairly similar in appearance, so many botany textbooks mistakenly describe white orchid and white magnolia as the same tree species. In fact, although they both belong to the magnolia family, they differ slightly in morphology, growth habits and flower color. Let us learn about their differences below.
The difference between white orchid and white magnolia: first, white magnolia, which is an evergreen tree of the Michelia genus in the magnolia family, with a plant height of about 17 to 20 m. Its appearance is characterized by flowers that are usually pure white or with a faint yellow tinge, a single petal about 3 cm long, and the whole flower about 12-15 cm in diameter. The leaves are usually green, long or oval. The flowering period is from May to October in summer, and when the flowers bloom, the fragrance is strong even when you put your nose to them; relatively speaking, the fragrance of white magnolia appears slightly lighter.

White magnolia, however, is a deciduous tree of the Magnolia genus in the magnolia family, with a plant height of about 17 m. In appearance, its petals are thicker and shaped like a dance dress with distinct layers, often pure white or with a faint pink tinge. Its distinguishing feature is that it blooms before the leaves appear, with a flowering period from December of the current year to April of the following year, about 10 days.

If the two flowers, white orchid and white magnolia, are placed together, they can be distinguished by their petals: white orchid petals are softer, and the stamens are more prominent, while the flowers of white magnolia are relatively larger. If distinguishing them by tree shape, the tree shape of white orchid is shorter and smaller than that of white magnolia. At the same time, the difference in flowering period can also be used to tell these two plants apart. Finally, the flower meanings of white orchid and white magnolia are different. The white orchid usually represents purity, elegance and humility, while the flower language of white magnolia symbolizes purity, nobility and love. Overall, white orchid and white magnolia differ in growth environment, flower color, petal texture and leaf shape. When choosing to buy or plant them, you can distinguish them based on these characteristics.
