Today we introduce an evergreen shrub that has won over many plant lovers with its unique natural character: the dragon tree. The reason it has become so popular in recent years is, first, its auspicious meaning - friends who especially love playing mahjong like it even more, as it is regarded as a lucky plant that can bring good fortune and wealth; second, placing it in the home makes the plants look quite impressive, giving people an artistic sense of style when they enter.

In appearance, the dragon tree has slender leaves with a tender, vivid color; the leaves feel somewhat rubbery to the touch and have a dual shade of emerald green, with golden stripes down the middle of the glossy leaves, making it look very dignified and elegant. For placement in the home, you can choose spots such as the living room entrance, a corner of the hall, or beside the stairs. As for care, it is very easy to grow. In terms of light, it likes plenty of sunshine but can also survive in a semi-shaded environment. Note, however, that in midsummer you should avoid direct, scorching sun, otherwise it will show you yellow leaves or drooping, curled leaves. But if the light is insufficient, its leaf markings will fade or the leaf tips will turn yellow and dry out, and after this happens you must give it water in time.

In terms of water management, the dragon tree is not tolerant of waterlogging, so watering should be moderate; during the growing season it is best to keep the potting soil moist, and the watering principle is to water when dry and let it dry between waterings, watering thoroughly when you do, and never allowing water to accumulate. If the weather is dry in autumn, it is recommended to mist the leaves and the surrounding environment to increase air humidity; this way you can better avoid dull leaf color and reduced gloss. In winter, watering should be reduced. At the same time, during the growing season the plant needs a nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizer once a month, which can promote its healthy growth. As for the choice of soil, the dragon tree is suited to well-drained sandy or gravelly soil. You can choose a mix of leaf mold, garden soil and sand at a ratio of 1:1:1.

Finally, pruning is the thing most plant lovers overlook. In fact, the plant should be pruned every 2-3 years, removing old leaves and withered yellow leaves; only this will help it reduce nutrient consumption and prevent yellowing leaves from spreading on the lower part of the plant. As long as plant lovers follow these care principles, your dragon tree will thrive and add a touch of unique greenery to your living space.
