Reasons for failure in home cultivation of Phalaenopsis orchids and how to handle lack of growth
As an essential flower for every Chinese New Year, the Phalaenopsis orchid is deeply loved by flower enthusiasts for its gorgeous blooms. However, after buying it home, many problems arise during care, the most common being plant wilting, leaf yellowing, buds failing to open, and so on. The following text will discuss the most commonly seen problems for growers.

Improper watering
Improper watering of Phalaenopsis orchids can lead to root rot, manifested as yellowing leaves, slowed growth, and even plant death. The solution is to adjust the amount of watering according to the orchid's growing environment and season. Generally speaking, keep the potting medium slightly moist, avoid water accumulation, and reduce watering in winter. At the same time, regularly provide suitable humidity for the orchid, avoiding excessive dryness or moisture.
Insufficient light
If a Phalaenopsis orchid does not get enough light, the leaves may become paler in color, flower development may be poor, and plant growth may even stagnate. The solution is to adjust the lighting and try to let the orchid receive sufficient natural light. If conditions do not allow it, artificial light sources can also be used for supplemental lighting.
Temperatures sometimes high and sometimes low
Phalaenopsis orchids may struggle when temperatures are sometimes high and sometimes low. When the temperature is too high, it may suffer from overly rapid water evaporation, leading to dehydration. In an environment where the temperature is too low, the orchid's growth may stop, and frost damage may even occur. To solve this problem, we need to ensure the orchid is kept in an environment with a suitable temperature. In hot weather, ventilation and water supply should be appropriately increased, while in cold weather, the orchid should be moved to a warm place and avoid direct exposure to a cold environment.
Lack of fertilizer
When a Phalaenopsis orchid lacks nutrients, symptoms such as yellowing leaves, slowed growth, and a reduced number of flowers may appear. To solve this problem, it is recommended to regularly apply an appropriate amount of fertilizer to the orchid. A specialized orchid fertilizer can be chosen and used after diluting it according to the recommended ratio on the instructions.
Unsuitable medium
If the growing medium for a Phalaenopsis orchid is unsuitable, problems such as slow plant growth, leaf yellowing, and root rot may occur. If inspection reveals a problem with the medium, replace it promptly with a new one. It is recommended to choose a growing medium with good air permeability and excellent drainage, such as decomposed pine needles, perlite, and so on.
