Morphological differences between the giant spider lily and the spider lily, and a comparison of their care difficulty
It is well known that similar appearances are often due to everyone being related, and the same is true in the world of flowers. Sometimes even two flowers from different genera look astonishingly alike, and even professionals on site may not be able to tell them apart at a glance. What we are talking about here is the giant spider lily and the spider lily. Both of them are perennial herbaceous plants, bear flowers of the same color, and also bloom in summer. So how do you tell them apart in everyday flower markets? Let's take a look together below.

What is the difference between the giant spider lily and the spider lily? Although they look similar, there are still notable differences when they are placed side by side. First, the petal characteristics differ. Let's start with the petals and leaves of the spider lily: its form closely resembles a cup shape, the petals are slender and connected to the center of the stamen, while the leaves are relatively narrow and thick, usually linear in shape, and the leaves are arranged oppositely, showing a linear arrangement. The giant spider lily is characterized by broad, large petals without a cup-like structure, so its leaves are also relatively wider than those of the spider lily, and the leaves grow in a spiral arrangement, making the overall look closer to round.
In addition, although both plants bloom in summer, the flowering period of the giant spider lily is during summer from June to August, while the flowering period of the spider lily is from late summer to early autumn, that is, around September to October. At the same time, the family and genus of the giant spider lily and the spider lily are also different. Although they are somewhat related, the giant spider lily belongs to the genus Crinum in the family Amaryllidaceae, while the spider lily belongs to the genus Hymenocallis in the family Amaryllidaceae.
Then, the various flower meanings of the two plants are also different. Among them, the flower meaning of the giant spider lily represents a couple walking together, depending on each other in life and death and never leaving each other, and represents the wisdom of Manjushri Bodhisattva. The flower meaning of the spider lily usually represents friendship.
Finally, regarding the care of the giant spider lily and the spider lily, the giant spider lily likes light and also tolerates partial shade. It can grow well at a growth temperature of 22-28°C, with low temperatures not below 5°C and high temperatures not above 30°C. For daily watering, water more in summer, less in winter, and water normally in appropriate amounts in spring and autumn, following the principle that the soil should be kept slightly moist. For the care of the spider lily, it likewise prefers warmth, is not tolerant of cold, and likes scattered light and an environment with moderate humidity. As long as the soil is not overly wet, it can grow well. Be careful to avoid excessive moisture, which can cause root rot.
