I believe many people who grow money trees in winter will see their leaves turn black, especially in northern regions where temperatures drop below 10 degrees, and cases of money trees freezing to death are not few. So, as winter approaches, what prevention should be done? And how should a money tree be rescued after being frozen? Let's find out together below.

Generally speaking, before you know cold weather is coming, you should place it indoors as much as possible. If the money tree suffers cold damage, measures should be taken promptly to rescue it. First, check the extent of the damage. If you find that the branches and leaves have basically turned yellow and withered, or if the branches and leaves feel frozen limp or frozen black to the touch, they all need to be cut off promptly. Doing this first reduces the supply of water and nutrients, and second also helps the roots recover healthy new shoots.

Second, after bringing the plant indoors, the temperature should be raised promptly. Money trees grow best at around 20°C. At night the temperature may become even colder, so at this time you can additionally put a bag over it to keep it warm, but be careful not to let the bag directly touch the leaves, to avoid water droplets forming and causing mold growth.

Then, for ten days to half a month after frost damage, increase its daily light exposure (except in environments with heating). Because appropriate sunlight and temperature are beneficial for its leaves to recover, and light can also promote the leaves to synthesize substances beneficial to the plant's nutrients. In addition to appropriately increasing light, also pay attention to ventilation, because a stuffy indoor room can easily cause unnecessary bacteria to breed in the soil. While relieving the cold, also be careful not to place it somewhere with too much heat, to avoid problems such as the leaf surface turning yellow.

At the same time, you also need to reduce watering of the money tree, because during its recovery period, the original cold damage already stores a certain amount of moisture, and if you water again, it may cause root rot. It is recommended to keep it dry rather than wet during this period, and once the plant recovers, you can resume normal watering.

Finally, after being frozen, the money tree also needs its root system checked. If you find that some roots are damaged, take it out of the potting soil, being careful during the process not to break up the soil, and finally replant the healthy roots into a new pot. Generally, for more than a month after repotting, do not give it any water.
