Periwinkle, known as "eternal joy," has always been deeply loved by flower enthusiasts because it is extremely easy to care for, blooms in great abundance after new flowers open, has small and lovely blossoms, and is a plant with tough vitality. How do you choose the pruning time for periwinkle? In winter, prune dead and old branches, while summer is suitable for light thinning. It is generally recommended to wait until periwinkle grows to about 6 to 8 cm before pruning it. The pruning principle is to leave 6-8 cm and then cut off the other long branches above. If the periwinkle has not yet reached that length during the seedling stage, do not prune it; wait until after it blooms and then do an overall pruning. In addition, you can also remove the 2-3 pairs of leaves below the faded flowers; this operation can promote the blooming of later flowers.

After the periwinkle flowers fade, you can also take cuttings from it. The specific planting steps are not complicated. First, find a healthy mother plant free of pests and diseases and cut from it, usually 5-10 cm long, and each cutting should contain at least 3 nodes. After cutting, choose the oldest soil, preferably acidic sandy soil, or a culture soil made by evenly mixing humus soil with river sand, because this kind of soil is loose, fertile, and has better air permeability.

Then, insert the prepared branches into the culture soil. First cut the branches diagonally to increase the contact area with the soil. When inserting the cuttings, the depth should be about one-third to one-half of the branch length. After inserting all the cuttings, gently compact the soil to ensure the cuttings are stable and do not fall over. After cuttings are inserted, keep the ambient temperature at 20-24°C and wait about 15-20 days for the branches to grow roots.

Finally, after the periwinkle has grown roots, move it into a flower pot you like. But note that because periwinkle branches and leaves grow quickly, you should prepare a larger flower pot as much as possible. It is recommended to put enough organic fertilizer at the bottom of the potting soil during the first move. After that, keep the soil slightly moist during care, do not let it become too dry, and after the periwinkle's pot-adjustment period has passed, gradually increase light exposure.
