Snapdragon bloom season and care methods: does it really turn into a skull after withering?
Snapdragon, also known as dragon's head flower, lion flower, dragon's mouth flower, and foreign colorful sparrow, is a perennial herbaceous plant of the genus Antirrhinum in the family Scrophulariaceae. Its plant height is moderate, usually between 20-70 cm, with upright stems that branch abundantly. The leaves of snapdragon are oblong-lanceolate in shape. The flowers are usually borne in racemes, with the inflorescence terminal, and the flower colors include light red, deep red, deep yellow, white, and many other colors. The petals resemble a goldfish tail, and the flower colors are brilliant, which is why it is named snapdragon. Whenever spring arrives, snapdragon blooms with brilliant, colorful flowers facing the sunlight, becoming a beautiful sight in the garden.

As for the blooming time of snapdragon, it is actually mainly concentrated in spring. Specifically, the bloom season of snapdragon is generally between March and May each year. During this period, snapdragon reaches its peak bloom, fully displaying the colors and vitality of spring. However, it should be noted that the bloom season of snapdragon may differ due to factors such as climate and region. In the warm southern regions, the bloom season of snapdragon may come earlier; while in the cold northern regions, it may be somewhat later.

To let snapdragon display its most beautiful appearance during peak bloom, we need to pay attention to the following care techniques: snapdragon likes loose, fertile, well-drained soil. When planting, you can choose soil rich in humus and add an appropriate amount of drainage materials such as perlite or vermiculite to improve the soil structure. It likes sufficient light, but exposure to strong sun should be avoided during high summer temperatures. Snapdragon can be placed in partial shade or under a shade net to maintain suitable light intensity. It also has relatively high water requirements, but waterlogging should be avoided. During the growing period, keep the soil moist, but do not overwater. During high summer temperatures, the frequency of watering can be appropriately increased, but the potting soil must not be allowed to accumulate water. During the growing period, it needs a sufficient nutrient supply. In the early stage of growth, a compound fertilizer mainly based on nitrogen fertilizer can be applied to promote plant growth; before the bloom season, increase the application of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers to promote flower bud differentiation and blooming. When fertilizing, follow the principle of "light fertilizer applied frequently" to avoid root burn caused by excessively high fertilizer concentration.

The legend about whether snapdragon turns into a skull after withering is actually groundless. This imagination is merely an exaggerated description of the withered state of snapdragon. When the flowers wither, a shape similar to a "skull" forms on the flower stem. This phenomenon is a natural process in the life cycle of snapdragon, rather than withering directly turning into a skull. After the flowers of snapdragon bloom, as time goes on, the flowers gradually wither, and the part on the flower stem forms a structure resembling a skull. This structure is actually the fruit of snapdragon after withering, and it also has three small holes, forming a hollow shell shape, giving people a strange yet unique sense of beauty.
In fact, after withering, snapdragon still has a certain ornamental value. Withered snapdragon can be used as dried flowers or dried branch art pieces for home decoration or garden landscapes. Their unique forms and textures add a different kind of charm to a space.
