The iris has blue-purple petals, and its blooming flowers stand gracefully and elegantly, symbolizing light and freedom. So how do you choose one at the flower market? First, when buying a bouquet, look at its buds. Do not pick ones whose buds have already opened very wide, and do not pick ones with soft flower heads, as this may mean they are a bit dehydrated. Next, check whether its roots have rotted, and feel whether there is any slime or the like. If you confirm there is none, it means your flowers are still fairly fresh. After taking the flowers home, unpack them and cut the roots at an angle. Take a deep bucket and revive the flowers for about one hour. After reviving them, remove the excess leaves and keep only 1~2 ornamental leaves. Finally, choose a vase with a relatively wide mouth, cut the roots straight across so they do not absorb too much water, and add water to a level of 1/3~2/3 to keep them. After arranging them in the vase, you can pick out a few leaves, pinch them with your thumb and middle finger, and shape them to create some sense of line, so they will look more lively in the vase. In daily care, change the water once every 2~3 days, rinse the roots each time, and keep them ventilated.

Besides being used in flower arrangements, many people also like to put irises in outdoor flower beds or grow them indoors in pots. How should they be cared for in daily home conditions? First, it likes sunlight and is strongly cold-tolerant. Usually it can be placed on a sunny terrace so it gets more than 6 hours of sunlight. As for soil, you can add some decomposed organic fertilizer to the soil. After that, the best daily state for the soil is to keep it moist but not waterlogged. In spring and autumn, water once a week; in summer, you can water a little more frequently, but avoid overly wet roots that cause root rot; in winter, reduce watering.

Of course, if you want it to bloom beautifully, fertilizing is essential. During the growing season, apply a compound fertilizer once a month to promote growth and flowering. Usually, when you see withered or yellowing leaves, cut them off promptly so they do not absorb nutrients and affect the growth of other new plants.
Finally, irises can be propagated by division or sowing. Specifically, you can choose 3~4-year-old plants for division. In short, with proper care, irises can become a constant feature in your home.
