There are many varieties of Phalaenopsis, and some look very similar. If they are not placed side by side for comparison, it is really hard to tell the differences. Today I will compare for you the Phalaenopsis 'Shuiling' and Phalaenopsis 'Xingyue' varieties that people always mistake for each other.

First, in terms of color, 'Shuiling' is on the lighter side, and its back is pale green, mixed with whitish and pink tones. When it first opens there is a little yellow at the tip, and only after the flower has been open for a long time does it turn pale green. 'Xingyue' is also green, mixed with white and light purple. The biggest difference between the two lies in the texture of the petals: 'Xingyue' has a velvety surface, while 'Shuiling' is flat. Another difference is that the lips of 'Shuiling' and 'Xingyue' are also different. First, looking at 'Shuiling', its lip is flat, and the petal feel of the lip is stronger than that of 'Xingyue', so the whole flower opens out better. In contrast, 'Xingyue' has a lip that curves upward, looking a bit like a human chin.

Secondly, the flower diameter of both 'Shuiling' and 'Xingyue' is around 9 cm. Comparing the leaves of the two varieties, 'Shuiling' has slender leaves with a slightly frosted feel when touched, not very shiny. 'Xingyue' has wide leaves with a glossy texture. Overall, their main differences lie in the design sense of flower color and flower shape.
Then, in terms of care for the two varieties, 'Shuiling' grows a bit better, because its leaves and roots grow faster, but its drawback is that the roots are prone to black tips and it is prone to mild stem rot. As for 'Xingyue', its growth rate is slower, but during the flowering period it rarely has problems such as pests.
imageFinally, I need to remind everyone that varieties like Phalaenopsis 'Shuiling' and Phalaenopsis 'Xingyue' belong to the solid-colored flowers, so their flowers fade relatively easily. It may happen that not long after blooming, the flower color becomes lighter and lighter. This is a characteristic of light-colored flowers. So if you do not like fading, then this type of flower is not suitable for you.
