The reason the lotus is so favored, of course, is not only that it is beautiful, but also because it possesses a noble quality of remaining unstained amid chaos.

So, if you want to bring the beautiful lotus scene into your home, how should you care for it day to day? First, good care requires light; daily light must not be less than three hours, and indoors it is recommended to give it supplemental lighting. Second, many people online say you can grow flowers by just using water in a pot, but those are basically fake. A pot for growing lotus at home needs soil inside; it is recommended to use ordinary farmland soil or even roadside soil.

Then, there needs to be water in the pot, because it is an aquatic plant. For flower lovers growing it for the first time, it is best to use mineral water or water from a water dispenser; if using tap water, let it sit for a day before use. For small-container pot planting, remember that it must not lack water; if the water is not foul-smelling, there is no need to change it often. Try to use older water, as this way the water body will be relatively more stable. In addition, during the Dragon Boat rainy season, mosquitoes appear very easily, so you can also keep one or two small fish in the pot, which can eat the mosquitoes. If the water becomes foul-smelling, it must be changed immediately.

As for the pot issue, it is recommended to use a nested-pot method, that is, placing a small pot inside a larger pot, because the lotus is a plant where the larger the water surface, the larger the flowers. It is recommended that flower lovers repot the lotus once every two years. After the flowering period, when pruning flowers and leaves, promptly cut off old leaves and yellow leaves, so as not to affect water quality and also to avoid consuming too many nutrients.

Finally, how should you fertilize? It is recommended to wrap the fertilizer in a facial tissue or paper towel, then bury the fertilizer in the soil (use special decomposed cake fertilizer or aquatic plant fertilizer for the fertilizer). Try to bury it in the middle of the soil, not deep down onto the lotus roots, and let it slowly increase its fertility. This operation can also help extend the lotus flowering period.
