The Yuanli Inspection Station of the Third Coastal Patrol Corps under the Central Branch of the Coast Guard Administration received a report from the public on the 27th that a live green sea turtle was stranded on the beach along the coast of Chushuili, Miaoli County. Coast guard personnel went to the scene to handle the situation and also contacted staff from National Taiwan Ocean University and the Fourth Marine Conservation Work Station of the Ocean Conservation Administration to assist on site. Later, personnel from National Taiwan Ocean University took the green sea turtle back for care.
At 14:00 on December 27, 2021, the Fourth Patrol Area Command of the Coast Guard Administration received a report from a member of the public calling the 118 service hotline, stating that a live sea turtle had been found stranded along the coast of Chushuili, Miaoli County. It immediately notified the Yuanli Inspection Station and the Longgang Mobile Patrol Station to dispatch 2 vehicles and 6 personnel for the rescue. An initial measurement found the sea turtle to be about 52.5 cm long and about 45 cm wide. Coast guard personnel took photographs and forwarded them to the Fourth Work Station of the Ocean Conservation Administration, which uploaded them to the "Sea Turtle Rescue Notification Group," where personnel from National Taiwan Ocean University identified it as an endangered green sea turtle. Later, coast guard personnel who arrived at the scene worked together to transport the green sea turtle to the Yuanli Inspection Station, where it was kept moist and properly sheltered. After personnel from the Ocean Conservation Administration and the university arrived one after another, an initial observation showed that the green sea turtle had no obvious external injuries and stable vital signs. After consulting and obtaining consent from the Miaoli County Agriculture Department, the green sea turtle was handed over to university personnel to be transported back to National Taiwan Ocean University for shelter and care. The live endangered green sea turtle rescued on the 27th was the 11th sea turtle rescue case this year along the coast of the central sea area (Miaoli to Chiayi). Fortunately, enthusiastic members of the public reported it immediately, and the relevant units went to handle it, adding another piece of good news to marine ecological conservation. It is hoped that there will be no more cases this year in which marine life must be rescued or dies.
The Third Coastal Patrol Corps called for action: Marine conservation is the responsibility of every one of us living on this land. In order to give future generations richer natural resources, in addition to not overfishing or indiscriminately killing protected animals, we should also actively protect the environment in which we live. If members of the public find injured whales, dolphins, or sea turtles along the coast that need rescue, please call the Coast Guard Administration's 118 service hotline, and coast guard personnel will immediately dispatch personnel to respond. "Integrity is the core value of -." If members of the public discover corruption, please call the Agency Against Corruption reporting hotline at 0800-286-586 or the Coast Guard Administration integrity hotline at 02-22399241 to report it.
