2021 Asia Esports Open concludes, "Shangshan Ruoshui" wins championship and a million-dollar prize

(Taiwan TB News Network / Reporter Sun Yaozhang) New Taipei's annual esports extravaganza, the "2021 Asia Esports Open," kicked off in July with more than 6,200 skilled players taking part. After fierce competition, the results of the "League of Legends" grand final finally came out on the evening of September 5, with "Shangshan Ruoshui" defeating "Taipei Bear Zan" to take the overall championship and a prize of NT$1 million.

New Taipei Mayor Hou You-yi said that this summer vacation New Taipei held the "2021 Asia Esports Open," building an esports competition platform so that young people could team up with their teammates for online matches while staying at home for epidemic prevention and enjoy the thrill of esports. He congratulated the overall champions of "League of Legends," the "League of Legends - Howling Abyss Challenge," and "FreeFire - I Want to Survive," who fought their way through and stood out from the fierce competition with outstanding play, making their championship well deserved.

Hou You-yi stressed that since last year the city government has joined hands with private competition organizers and the esports industry to hold the "Asia Esports Open," creating an esports brand exclusive to New Taipei, and that the "110th National Games," held in New Taipei in October, was the first in the nation to include esports as an official event. We will continue to foster a positive esports atmosphere and show our earnest support for esports, encouraging more people to join the esports ranks and thereby enter related industries, boosting esports business opportunities and development momentum. New Taipei's esports competitions will not stop. At the National Games in October, esports talents from every county and city will surely send out their best, and I believe it will bring everyone a different kind of esports competition experience. I hope everyone will also follow the esports competitions at the National Games next and cheer together for the teams they support.

The Economic Development Department pointed out that in addition to holding large-scale esports events such as the Asia Esports Open to enliven esports culture, the city government also places great emphasis on cultivating esports industry talent. The "New Taipei Esports Base" in Sanchong District is a core venue dedicated to promoting esports, offering esports industry talent training courses that train talent in event planning, hosting and commentary, audio-visual production, and computer graphics, while also helping outstanding esports trainees take part in esports activity planning, hands-on event work, and industry internships, training more than 500 esports industry professionals each year.

This Asia Esports Open received joint support from domestic and international companies including MSI Micro-Star International, Intel, HyperX Kingston, Chunghwa Telecom, Sanlih Group, CTBC, and Taiwan Power Company. In the future, the city government will further strengthen corporate cooperation and continue to promote links among New Taipei's esports industry, talent, and activities, expand the esports industry chain, and let esports culture continue to ferment in New Taipei as the industry flourishes and grows upward.
