Staying Healthy Through the Pandemic: Yunlin Premium E-Commerce Platform's "Veggie Everwell" Vegetable Boxes Sell Out
As the COVID-19 pandemic escalates, crowds lining up to snap up daily necessities have appeared all over Taiwan. The Yunlin County - Yunlin Premium E-Commerce Platform, in order to serve the many consumers who support Yunlin County's agricultural products, moved early last Friday (the 14th) to launch the "Veggie Everwell" home pandemic-prevention vegetable box. It sold out as soon as it was listed, and the packing facility at the place of origin kept working overtime to restock. In response to strong public demand, the platform has launched another pandemic-prevention food section, "Staying Healthy Through the Pandemic," offering everything from vegetable and fruit boxes to livestock and poultry meat, rice, noodles, oil, food products and fruit, making it easy for people to eat healthily while staying at home to prevent the pandemic.
Yunlin County Magistrate Chang Li-shan said that during the pandemic-prevention period, people can shop online to reduce the risk of exposure to the pandemic when going out to buy vegetables. The "Veggie Everwell" pandemic-prevention vegetable box is supplied by operators within the county, coordinated by the Yunlin County - Department of Agriculture. It offers combinations of leafy vegetables, root and stem vegetables, and spices and seasonings with traceable production and marketing records, following the "four leaves, three roots, one spice" formula (the main vegetables and fruits are mainly products with traceable production and marketing records, and the contents will be adjusted according to conditions at the place of origin). All products are shipped directly from the place of origin, so consumers can buy healthy, safe and fresh agricultural products from Yunlin, delivered straight from the place of origin, without leaving home.
Wu Fang-ming, Director of the Department of Agriculture, said that in response to the pandemic developments last week, the Department of Agriculture prepared in advance. In addition to strengthening and urging pandemic-prevention measures at wholesale markets, farmers' organizations and collection and packing sites, it also prepared in advance for the production and marketing situation the pandemic might bring. As for the school group meal system supplied within the county, current statistics show that the suspension of classes in Taipei and New Taipei has affected nearly 100 metric tons of contracted organic and traceable vegetables, of which 24 metric tons have already been matched with supply units to adjust on their own and redirect supply to other channels. Follow-up assistance will continue through diverse channels, including coaching cooperative vegetable boxes, matching with other channel operators and processing operators, and continuing to help regulate vegetables within the county to protect farmers' incomes.
