Pingtung pineapples exported to South Korea, freshly stocked through local supermarket channels
Laying out global channels, Pingtung County is actively expanding the export market for Pingtung pineapples with visible results! County Magistrate Pan Meng-an attended the container sealing ceremony on the 11th for pineapples exported to South Korea by the Lantian Agricultural Production Cooperative in Wanluan Township. County Magistrate Pan Meng-an stated that this year, for the first time, a 40-foot container carrying approximately 12 tons was exported to South Korea, supplying supermarkets in Busan, South Korea, and he believes that the volume of Pingtung pineapples exported to South Korea will increase substantially this year.
County Magistrate Pan Meng-an pointed out that under the double impact of the pandemic and China's announcement of a ban on imports of Taiwan pineapples, Pingtung County, along with local farmers and farmers' groups, has actively expanded overseas orders. So far this year, Pingtung pineapple exports have reached 3,946 metric tons, with an export value of 100 million yuan. Although South Korea's pineapple imports are mainly from the Philippines, under the county government's active expansion efforts, Pingtung pineapple sales to South Korea have shown multiple-fold growth compared with previous years, and orders from South Korea are increasing day by day.
County Magistrate Pan Meng-an stated that although China's ban on pineapple imports has affected 30,000 tons of Pingtung pineapples, the county government has diverted shipments for export to other countries such as Japan and Singapore, and expanded the domestic market. For this reason, he called on farmers not to panic, not to rush to harvest, and not to engage in price-cutting competition, while consumers on the market side should not rush to stock up, but buy more during the peak production season. Through diverted shipment and distributed purchasing, the market can be stabilized, and he also hopes that through this, the pineapple industry can be deepened and serve as a new opportunity for next year.
Pingtung County's export channels are laid out globally. This time, not only was a 40-foot container carrying approximately 12 tons of pineapples exported to supermarkets in Busan, South Korea, but another container will be shipped to Japan again in the afternoon. A Japanese online shopping company has already ordered two 40-foot containers of pineapples, and orders continue to increase. The county government will subsequently also export pineapples to markets such as Canada and Australia, expanding new international channels.
