Post-Typhoon Management Measures for Forest Specialty and Flower Nurseries
In response to the sustained heavy rainfall brought by this year's No. 16 Typhoon "Rosa", which caused serious impacts on our city, with torrential rains falling across all areas, river water levels rising sharply, and large areas of farmland being submerged, bringing serious impacts on forest specialty and flower nurseries in our city, especially in the plain areas, the following opinions on rescuing waterlogged nurseries are hereby put forward in order to reduce losses in seedling and flower production in our city. Please organize and implement them conscientiously.
I. Timely Drainage
After forest nurseries suffer from flood disasters, rescue should be carried out as soon as possible to reduce losses. First, ditches and channels should be dredged in a timely manner to remove waterlogging and silt and debris, the nursery land should be tidied up, and the seedbeds should be leveled so that surface water flows off directly and subsurface water drains away directly.
II. Righting and Washing Seedlings
After the water recedes, seedlings should be righted in a timely manner, and silt and debris on the seedlings should be washed off to increase photosynthetic efficiency. After the seedlings recover their vitality, loosening the soil and weeding should then be carried out to promote the growth and development of the seedling root system. This is a basic measure for rescuing seedlings and must be done thoroughly.
III. Timely Fertilization
After the nursery land has dried out slightly, organic fertilizer and phosphorus and potassium fertilizers can be applied as a top dressing, and wood ash may also be applied as an option, to prevent seedling root rot. Because the seedlings are about to enter the winter dormant period, pure nitrogen fertilizer is strictly prohibited. After a few days, a small amount of plant growth promoter may be sprayed to promote the root absorption capacity of the seedlings, accelerate healthy seedling growth, and improve resistance to pests and diseases.
IV. Disease Prevention and Sterilization ⟧11⟧All submerged seedlings should undergo one round of disease prevention and sterilization work. On the basis of clearing silt and debris from the nursery land, a 0.5%-1% Bordeaux mixture may be sprayed over the entire nursery land for disinfection. If damping-off disease is found, thiophanate or carbendazim should be used promptly for control.
