How to prevent and treat powdery mildew on flowers

When it comes to powdery mildew on flowers, gardening friends are all familiar with it, so what should be noted when preventing and treating powdery mildew on flowers.

Here the editor provides it to everyone in detail:

1. The reasons powdery mildew occurs and how to improve and prevent it in terms of watering methods.

One reason it occurs is high temperature and muggy conditions, and another even more important reason is that you must never water at night, especially spray watering!!! This is also the main reason powdery mildew appears in our garden, because we always water at night, and we always use the spraying method.

Misting or sprinkling water on plants is only suitable for replenishing water after windy spring weather. In sauna-like weather like Beijing's, humidity during the day is at least above 70%, which is very unsuitable for spraying water onto the leaves again.

I remember reading a foreign gardening book a while ago; in the section about automatic irrigation systems, it also specifically mentioned one thing, which is to use seep hoses rather than micro-sprinkler hoses, so as to avoid the leaf surfaces getting wet. At the time I still felt I could not quite understand it, because I had originally thought flowers were all quite willing to be sprayed with water. Only now do I finally understand. In sauna-like weather the humidity already makes plants very uncomfortable, and spraying them with water again, even in the morning, will only make them more uncomfortable.

2. The medication and frequency after powdery mildew occurs

According to the shared suggestions of three people: if it has already occurred, then you can no longer use chlorothalonil alone, because using it alone is only suitable for prevention, not for treatment. Carbendazim is also not good, and its effect is not even as good as chlorothalonil.

The suitable formula is as follows (this is the formula recommended unanimously by three people): after it occurs, for the next spraying: triadimefon (also known as triazole copper, there is no imported one, only domestically produced) + chlorothalonil (only the imported one is better) mixed together, a slightly higher concentration is also fine. Four days later, spray again with the same formula. Persist with this method for about 3 to 4 times. It should basically be cured by then.

3. Suitable spraying time

After dusk is suitable, this way avoiding the hot sunlight quickly drying up the water in the solution, causing the medicinal ingredients in it to concentrate unevenly on the leaves, which easily causes leaf burn. After spraying in the evening, when watering the next morning, you can use the spraying method once to wash off the white medicinal powder on the leaf surface. Do not worry that this affects the efficacy, because Ding Liang said that as long as it is maintained for 4 hours it is enough. Furthermore, according to what the old man in the agricultural supplies store said, after washing it off like this, the medicine enters the soil and can further be absorbed by the plants and take effect.

4. Preventive spraying method

After spraying with the formula being used three to four times (roughly one month later), you need to switch to a new formula and cannot continue using the old formula. For the new formula, you can use chlorothalonil and thiophanate-methyl mixed together, likewise lasting one month, roughly once a week. After one month, switch to another broad-spectrum medicine; agricultural supplies stores all have many choices, both imported and domestic. Anyway, just keep rotating and using them this way, with one month as a cycle. You need to keep this up until after October 1, when the weather becomes cool, and then you can stop.
